Summary
The characters in a series likeTsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasyhave a much larger divide between their hypothetical ‘power levels’ than most other casts of charactersin an isekai series. Makoto Misumi, for example, is so far above every other basic hyuman adventurer in this setting that comparing the two would be comparing the size of an ant to the size of a luxury apartment building.
Thankfully, the story ofTsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasydoesn’t really focus on the ‘weaker’ characters, it focuses on some of the strongest such as Makoto, Tomoe, Mio, and even other heroes that were naturally from Earth such as Tomoki Iwahahi or Hibiko Otonashi.
Updated May 27th, 2024 by Jacob Buchalter:With the second season of Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy nearing its end, a lot of new story elements have been revealed relating to who is the defacto ‘strongest’ in this isekai world and how they compare, if at all, to someone like Makoto Misumi or The Goddess herself. In fact, there’s an entire episode in the second season of the anime that goes over just how much the residents of the Demiplane have grown, and that includes all the new residents they’ve added as well. Granted, the divide in power between the Hyumans and the residents of the Demiplane is gigantic, absurdly so, and that divide between the Demiplane residents and Makoto himself is even more absurd. Still, these are all the characters we felt deserved to be mentioned here as Tsukimichi’s absolute strongest combatants.
13Lime Latte
One of the Strongest Hyumans Alive
Starting things off with probably the only natural hyuman of this series (or at least he was for a long time until he became a half-dragon), Lime Latte. Previously, Lime was the top adventurer in Tsige and had a bit of a negative first encounter with Makoto, Mio, and Tomoe, as he joined up with a shaman who had tricked him into cursing the daughters of the head of the Rembrandt company.
After being ruthlessly defeated by Tomoe, she actually takes Lime in and trains him to a much higher level of competency than any other pure hyuman in the story. Of course that still puts him pretty low on the totem pole of the Kuzunoha company, but he’s still absurdly strong.
12Tomoki Iwahashi
A More Cowardly Hero Chosen by the Goddess
Next up is a character who was given all the proper ‘cheats’ in order to become incomprehensibly strong, but somehow manages to end up pretty weak due to his weak-minded nature, massive ego, and inferiority complex. Tomoki Iwahashi is one ofthe three people summoned from Earthalongside Makoto Misumi and Hibiki Otonashi. However, he’s the only one who asked the goddess of this new world to completely change his appearance as well as demand all sorts of extra items and abilities.
For example, his Demon Eye is able to charm just about anyone at will, and Tomoki seems to put no thought or effort into controlling it. This quickly causes him to over-rely on his slew of brainwashed party members who would die for him as well as struggle with any real social interactions with people who aren’t affected by his demonic eye. Tomoki could’ve been one of the stronger entries on here, but the person Tomoki is underneath all the cheat items and abilities is weak enough to more than nullify the strength of all his bonuses.
11Emma The Highland Orc
One of the Strongest Mages of the Demiplane
One of the first characters people are introduced to inTsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasyis Emma, a run-of-the-mill Highland Orc who was in the act of being sacrificed to Tomoe back when she was still an unchained Greater Dragon. Currently, she acts as Makoto’s secretary and overall supervisor of the Demiplane, and she does her job incredibly well.
Unlike a lot of other characters on this list who were justdropped into this isekai worldwith absurd mana or overpowered abilities, Emma the Highland Orc is a natural-born mage who has seemingly worked very hard on her skills. She’s known as one of the strongest mages in the Demiplane, Makoto’s hidden realm full of all sorts of different overpowered fighters, and her calm demeanor means that Emma would very likely keep herself together during a fight without much issue. Plus, she’s so iconically competentthat even Mio regards her as someone deserving of a lot of respect.
10Hibiki Otonashi
A Hero Chosen by the Goddess
Hibiki Otonashi is the other hero summoned from Earth that was beloved by the Goddess alongside Tomoki Iwahashi, but when comparing the two it’s clear to see that Hibiki is nothing like Tomoki. While it’s a bit silly that someone would give up their entire life to go to another world just because nothing ‘challenged’ them on Earth, Hibiki quickly shows herself to be very dedicated to the cause, hardworking, passionate, and friendly.
Granted, compared to all the other powerhouses the series has shown so far across the Demon Army or even Makoto’s compatriots, Hibiki doesn’t quite stack up, but she’s the ‘hero of the hyumans’ for a reason. Hibiki has proven that she has the capability, she’s a skilled swordfighter, and she’s willing to do just about anything if it means saving others.
9Eris & Aqua
The Geniuses of the Forest Ogres
Up next representing the Forest Ogres, it’s Aqua and Eris. While it might seem a bit unfair to include two characters in one entry, these two are almost never separated and actually have a variety of spells and attacks they can only use while together. Of all the Forest Ogres, they get the most screentime in Tsukimichi and for good reason, they’re very good at adapting to their situation (given the right amount of bananas). As fighters they both seem to be incredibly competent, so much so that Makoto leaves it to them to safeguard his students while they work as Adventurers.
Even outside of that, these two are the only residents of the Demiplane (outside of Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki of course) that really managed to surprise Makoto with a spell that he couldn’t immediately replicate on his own. While not as strong as their mentor, Mondo, these two Forest Ogres have a much wider skillset and could likely beat just about anyone the Hyumans would throw their way.
8Mondo
The Strongest Forest Ogre
Moving on to the last Forest Ogre representative, it’s Mondo. Mondo didn’t really get to show how powerful he was in the first season, as the guy spent most of his time being possessed by Shiki, however, the second season has given him some spotlight to show off. There’s not a ton known about Mondo overall, other than the fact that he’s Eris and Aqua’s Master, he was possessed by Shiki before Makoto made the contract with him, and he’s one of the strongest fighters of the Demiplane. Near the end of the second season, Mondo does actually get to fight a bit while saving the city from transfigured human monsters, and his fighting style consists of…suplexes and turning monsters into trees. Not exactly the most ‘orthodox’ show of strength, but there’s no doubt he’s up there with the higher-ups of the Demiplane such as Emma. Still, he’s way below any of Makoto’s closest confidants, those of course being Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki.
7Shiki The Lich
Not much is known about Shiki, otherwise known as the Undead King by those who somehow managed to meet him and live the tell the tale. Shiki was of course alive at some point, but that was long before he met Makoto or anyone else. For as long as Makoto or the readers/viewers ofTsukimichihave known Shiki, he’s been a lich.
After making a servant contract with Makoto Misumi and becoming the weakest of the three to do so behind Mio and Tomoe, Shiki gained a body that had flesh and blood again. However, he can transform between this human form and his natural skeletal lich form as he wishes. In general, Shiki is still enough to destroy entire countries on his own with his wide range of magic abilities, but he’s still way below Mio or Tomoe overall.
6Zef
The Current Demon Lord
Of all the rankings on here, this one is the most ‘up in the air’. Zef is the Demon King of the world shown in Tsukimichi, and not much has ever been directly shown of his power, even in the light novel. He’s obviously very capable as a leader, as shown by how much he loves his people and how much his people love him.
And, the sheer ability to hold a prolonged war against a race that has the Goddess’s blessing is also worth noting. But, as an actual one-on-one fighter, all estimations are that Zef is very good to fantastic at best. It’s not clear who he would beat or who would have a chance of beating him, but it does feel safe to say that the three absurd powerhouses of this setting, those being Tomoe, Mio, and Makoto, are likely to beat him.
5Mio Misumi
The Black Spider of Calamity
Next up is a beast that has existed since ancient timesin this isekai world, the Black Spider of Calamity. this gigantic unstoppable spider also has an unstoppable hunger, and as such it was known to have devoured and destroyed everything in its path.
Because of this endless hunger, there was no room in Mio’s head for conscious thought, leaving her as little more than a mindless beast. However, after fighting Makoto and ingesting both a lot of his magic attacks and his blood, Mio was finally satisfied (temporarily of course) for the first time in her life, leading her to actually become conscious of her own will and personality. As a fighter Mio is unfathomably strong but a bit unhinged and airheaded, which is why Tomoe ends up just a bit above her in the rankings. Now as a chef, however, Mio might just be one of the weakest characters in the series.
4Tomoe Misumi
The Mirage Dragon
Next up is Tomoe, otherwise known as the Mirage Dragon Shin and the first actual ally of Makoto Misumi. One could count Emma as his first ally or even Tsukuyomi, but Tomoe is the first one to actually enter into a spirit contract with Makoto, albeit a master and servant contract due to Makoto’s absurd amount of mana.
There aren’t many existences in this setting that could even compare to Tomoe let alone give her a good fight, as a Greater Dragon she’s just that strong. And, after entering into her contract with Makoto Tomoe has become even stronger are a rapid pace, meaning that she’ll continue to get even stronger as Makoto does, and so will Mio.
