With the rise of streaming, Netflix has become such a giant entertainment company that it can put out countless films over the course of a year. Of course, sometimes this quantity comes at the expense of quality. While Netflix can often put some really fantastic content, even some films that are Oscar-worthy, there are also quite a few duds that make their way onto the platform as well.

What makes a movie truly “bad” is obviously partially up to the discretion of the viewer, as art is subjective. However, there are a lot of films that are objectively terrible, whether it’s because of poor writing, or bad performances on the part of the actors, or budget restrictions, or even just a premise that’s a little too wild. The website Rotten Tomatoes is usually an easy place to check if one wanted to see what the public andcritical reception of any film or TV showis, as they compile reviews from both users and real film critics. Here are the 5 Netflix movies that Rotten Tomatoes deemed to be the absolute worst of the year.

The Bubble - 21%

The Bubbleis a comedy directed by Judd Apatow, which would usually be a good sign for comedy fans. However, this film doesn’t quite reach the heights of some of his past hits. The story is about a group of actors stuck in a pandemic bubble at a hotel while they attempt to film a sequel movie in a fictional action franchise about flying dinosaurs. While that premise might sound like a lot of fun, apparently the movie itself isn’t quite as funny, and according to critics, the story is messyand full of pandemic jokes that feel instantly dated and out-of-touch. Even the all-star cast - including Karen Gillan, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, and Keegan-Michael Key - couldn’t save this one.

Home Team - 19%

If you’re into inspiring sports movies…maybe stay away from this one.Home Teamis based on the true story of NFL Head Coach Sean Payton (played by Kevin James), who goes back to his hometown two years after winning the Super Bowl to reconnect with his son by coaching his football team. On the surface, this sounds heartwarming, but critics had other things to say about it, namely, that it gets the facts of the story wrong in service of making the movie fall into tired comedy tropes, and that it’s fairly devoid of charm or wit. While some people thought that the movie had its moments, most agreed that it failed to capture the typical heart of a sports comedy.

Brazen - 14%

InBrazen, mystery writer and crime expert Grace (Alyssa Milano)is summoned back to her family home in Washington D.C. by her estranged sister, only for her sister to be murdered and her secret career as a webcam performer to be revealed. Grace tries to solve the case, despite the warnings of the detective on the case, Ed (Sam Page). Critics compared it to a made-for-TV movie in terms of quality, and said that it’s pretty silly and wacky. If anything, it’s a sort of so-bad-it’s-good watch, which might be appealing to some people. Just keep expectations low, and this kind of campy, trashy crime thriller might be an entertaining watch…as long as viewers don’t expect anything too Oscar-worthy.

Me Time - 6%

The audience seemed to likeMe Timea little more than the critics, who only gave it a 6%, but the audience score of 33% isn’t much better. In this movie, Kevin Hart plays a stay-at-home dad who gets some “me time” for the first time in years when his wife and kids are away. He decides to spend the weekend with his former best friend (played by Mark Wahlberg) who he hasn’t seen in a while, and what follows is a wild weekend full of misadventures that almost upend his life. This sounds liketypical Kevin Hartcomedy fare, but according to most critics, it doesn’t quite reach the mark of a good comedy. While the bare bones of a good idea are there, they’re mostly hidden under a layer of uninspired gags and crass jokes - not exactly a high-brow flick.

Marmaduke - 0%

It might seem impossible to get a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, but somehow,Marmadukemanaged it. This Netflix movie is an animated adaptation of the classic comic strip of the same name, featuring a big Great Dane named Marmaduke who gets into all sorts of trouble. The cast includes some big names, includingPete Davidson as Marmaduke, J.K. Simmons, and David Koechner, but fails to deliver on practically every level. Critics had nothing good to say about any of it - from the terrible writing to the visually unappealing animation, it just ended up being a real dud of a movie. The fact thatMarmadukemade absolutely no cultural splash when it released should have been the biggest sign of its quality.
