Less than two weeks after launchRemedy has announced a new update forAlan Wake 2which aims to fix a small set of important headaches. The patch provides a temporary workaround for a problem Xbox players have been facing where the game’s audio cuts out duringAlan Wake 2’s opening prologuethat sees players control a soggy, washed-up man along the shore of Cauldron Lake. In the notes, Remedy mentions a permanent fix for the issue that will come as part of a future update.
This update also fixes two very important issues that have occurred on all platforms. One of them is an Echo orb scene during the Room 665 chapter which had been failing to register properly. Echoes are small orbs of light and darkness players can encounter that, if aligned by the player, unlock a scene of dialogue vital to the story. This specific Echo had been tended to during a previous update but seems to have persisted nonetheless. The third and final bug this new patch addresses is one during the Local Girl chapter which halts the player’s progress entirely.Alan Wake 2’s previous patch contained over 200 fixesand while this new update only brings three, they’re all quite vital to the player experience, especially the progress-halting bug found in the Local Girl chapter.
There are certainly still several other bugs inAlan Wake 2which need to be addressed, but it’s good to see Remedy so responsive in taking care of a lot of them. As Remedy continues patching upAlan Wake 2’s bugs through November, Geoff Keighley’sThe Game Awards are right around the corner. It’ll be interesting to see ifAlan Wake 2manages to nab a Game of the Year nomination in such a packed year of high quality AAA game releases.
