Spider-Man: No Way Homehad an incredibly therapeutic effect on Garfield’s Spidey in that the film gave him the ultimate shot at redemption. Garfield recently stated in an interview with Variety, “My Spider-Man got to save his younger brother’s romantic relationship, potentially. And to heal the most traumatic moment of his own life through doing it for his younger brother. Making sure that he didn’t have the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that. It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen.” When Garfield speaks to the level of profound closure that he received while filming, it could also overlap and coincide with his past, personal off-screen romantic relationship with Stone. He shared, “The spirit thatZendaya brings to MJis so heartfelt and pure and loving, and Emma brought that similar unique spirit to Gwen.”

Many fans have been curious as to why there wasn’t a physical reprisal of Maguire’sMJ (Kirsten Dunst)along with Garfield’s Stacy inSpider-Man: No Way Home. However, Garfield made it clear that he naturally felt Stone’s energy that day on set, regardless of if it was in the script - he felt her presence was with him. He stated, “I don’t even know where to start with that. It’s too big. Gwen had agency. In our film, on her final day, she shows up. I tried to restrain her from showing up to that scene with villain, Electro, but she chose to be there. She had a hand in her own destiny in that way, and the movie is about fate. I will say the image of my catching Zendaya’s MJ - that was really beautiful and it kind of sold me on the whole thing.”

The scene in question turned out to be one of thebest moments inSpider-Man: No Way Home. In fact, even some who were critical ofThe Amazing Spider-Manfilms in which Garfield starred were thrilled to see the character’s arc come to a more satisfying conclusion.

Furthermore, some fans have called on Sony to reviveThe Amazing Spider-Manfranchise with a third installment. Garfield recently stated that he’s not received an offer to return for anotherSpider-Mansequel of his own, but he would open to the idea if it felt right.
