While some players are busy searching the depths of the oceans for pearls to trade for mermaid-themed DIYs inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, others are still terraforming their islands to perfection. And apparently, one major glitch that has shaped the way some players build their islands still hasn’t been completely patched out.
Animal Crossing: New Horizonsdips its toe into sandbox gaming with its new terraforming feature. While it is up for debate whether the terraforming feature is inconvenient and difficult to maneuver, or whether it allowsplayers to customize their islands to a tee, there is one thing players can agree upon: it’s glitchy. And though Nintendo has been working to patch out glitches since the game’s release, it seems a major one hasn’t been caught yet.

The ‘Fourth Level Glitch’ is exactly what it sounds like: players can build a fourth level on their islands and climb to its top. The game intended for only three levels to be accessible to players by terraforming them and implementing staircases, but some clever players had found workarounds to reach the forbidden fourth level. With the Version 1.3 update, also known asthe Wave 1 update, however, many of the popular methods to climb to the fourth level were patched out. But it doesn’t seem to matter how hardNintendo tries to limit playerswho pour tens of hours per day into landscaping and customizing their islands, because they have found another workaround.
Thanks to the folks over at Animal Crossing World, the method is pretty simple but takes some patience. To climb to the fourth level following theVersion 1.3 update, start by creating three cliffsides with space to walk on each—the fourth level of land is the very top, but it’s not climbable quite yet. Dig a 2x2 block out of the center of the cliff, but the bottom-leftmost corner should stay rounded out, so it’s only half-destroyed. Then, place a small item in the middle of the four tiles. Finally, facing the object, players will have to make two motions very quickly for the glitch to work: face down towards the southeast corner with the analog stick, then press the A button to dig.
This could take many, many tries before it actually works; it’s all about timing. But once it does, the player should build a cliffside on the bottom-right corner while being propelled up to the top floor.
For anyone who may have grown bored of terraforming islands to perfection, perhaps giveremaking TV and movie scenes inAC: NHa try until the Wave 2 summer update hits in August.
