Unfortunately, encountering cheaters in battle royale games has become a common occurrence in recent years. The development teams behindsuccessful games such asFortnite,Call of Duty: Warzone, andApex Legendshave had to deal with hackers attempting to compromise the competitive integrity of online matches. However, it appears that things have taken a particularly bad turn inApex Legendsas of late, and a top player in the game has decided to raise awareness of the issue, albeit in a controversial manner.
Recently, a popular professionalApex Legendsplayer known as HisWattson, a member of the esports organization FURIA, called out the developers at Respawn Entertainment. In an unusual tweet from July 21, the player sent out a message to thecheaters in theApex Legendscommunity, informing them of the best times to supposedly play the game without getting banned. While the pro player claimed to make these comments so that “EA will do something,” some developers at Respawn Entertainment were less than enthused.

Following these critical remarks from HisWattson, Conor “Hideouts” Ford, Security Analyst at Respawn Entertainment, took to social media to respond. In a tweet from the same day, the developer had some blunt words for the pro player for FURIA. “This is real cringe,” he said. However, HisWattson was quick to respond to the “cringe” accusation, claiming he had to deal with hackers inApex Legendsuntil the developers “decide to roll out of bed.”
Unsurprisingly, this tweet then caused Hideouts to respond with a longer message explaining his position on the issue. According to Hideouts, he thought the way HisWattson went about criticizing the development team regarding cheating was wrong, stating that some of the comments were “childish” and “unnecessary.” In addition, he called out the pro player for assuming that nothing was in the works. “What’s really cringe is you just assuming there isn’t anything in the works to improve the anti cheat,” Hideouts said on Twitter.
While Hideouts was clearly displeased with these tweets made by HisWattson, he did acknowledge the problems with hackers in the battle royale. In the tweet, the developer provided some additional info about the strategyRespawn Entertainmentplans to employ to improve anti-cheat inApex Legends. According to Hideouts, the developers do not want to reveal what is in the works to stop cheaters, as it would allow those trying to break the game an opportunity to adapt and likely defeat the purpose of an update.
While this recent tweet from Hideouts suggested that a revamp of theanti-cheat system forApex Legendscould be in the works, the timing for such an overhaul remains unclear. Unfortunately, this means that the problems many players are experiencing in the game could persist for the foreseeable future. Time will tell if these cheaters present inApex Legendsare enough to drive some people away from the battle royale in the coming months.
Apex Legendsis available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
