How Nexus' Story Fits In
Inthe story ofAssassin’s Creed Nexus, players are brought into the lore of the series by taking on the role of an anonymous hacker who is hired by series regulars Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings to infiltrate an Abstergo project called the “Nexus Eye”. The Nexus Eye project is led by Dominika Wilk, who seeks to retrieve the code of an Isu machine and combine it with the Animus into a computer capable of predicting and influencing human behavior. The hacker is successfully hired by Abstergo to locate the fragments of the code but secretly plans to plant logic bombs in the Animus memories to prevent the Templar organization from retrieving them.
Ezio’s memory takes place in Venice and Monteriggioni in 1509,a story afterAC Brotherhood, as he seeks to recover his lost relics; Connor’s memories are set in Boston and Newport, Rhode Island in 1775 as Connor assists Achilles in various missions to aid the cause of the Sons of Liberty; and Kassandra’s missions take place in 405 BC in Delos as she aids the Spartan army and Athens as she seeks to liberate the city from corruption. As the hacker gets deeper into the conflict between the assassins and the Templars, things get interesting.
What Nexus' Story Sets Up
As the hacker continues moving through the memories of history’s greatest assassins, they are eventually discovered by Dominika Wilk. Now outed as a spy, it is up to Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings to rescue them. Players then continue until the final mission, which is a corrupted memory that houses the final fragment. Pursued by Dominika’s hunters, the hacker plants the last of the logic bombs and detonates them to destroy the memories ofAssassin’s Creed’s greatest assassins.
Though the bombs are detonated and Abstergo’s Nexus Eye is ended, the assassins don’t walk away completely unscathed. Dominika discovers the location of the hacker and, in one of the game’s immersive cutscenes, captures them. She gives an ominous speech that alludes to the return of the Templars in future entries.
AsAssassin’s Creed Nexus 2has already been announced, it is likely the assassins will strike back at Dominika either to rescue the hacker or to prevent another Templar plan. Dominika could also be suggesting a plan that will appear in a mainline game likeHexeorRed. Either way,Nexus' open-ended conclusion will likely be continued in the future.
