Summary
It was in 2022 thatMarvel Cinematic Universepresident Kevin Feige took to the stage at SDCC to announce thatAvengers: Secret Warswill be the culmination of the currentMultiverse Saga. As many comic book fans know,Secret Warsis the event that brings together all heroes and villains across time and space for one massive battle, one fans eagerly await to see in live-action with theMCU.
While the fact that this is going to be anAvengersmovie indicates that fans will see some sort of huge crossover, the nature of the Multiverse also leaves the doors open to seeing some much-anticipated cameosfrom Marvel’s cinematic past. There is a long way to go beforeAvengers: Secret Warsis released in theaters, but that hasn’t stopped fans from expecting some big names to be announced for the film.
7Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
It wasn’t that long ago that fans got to see Tobey Maguire take on the role of Spider-Man again inSpider-Man: No Way Home. However, this appearance led many people to speculate that Maguire isn’t quite done with the iconic role just yet, especially when the idea of classic Spidey quipsagainst Kangseems like a dream.
For many Spider-Manfans, Tobey Maguire is Peter Parker. Lots of people assumed that they would never see him return to the role, so his recent stint in the spandex may be a sign that he is ready for something bigger. It would be great to see Andrew Garfield appear too, but Tobey Maguire is the original live-action Spider-Man.
6Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine
It seems that movie-goers can’t get enough of Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine. Even after thecharacters' death in 2017’sLogan, Jackman is again suiting up for another round as Wolverine inDeadpool 3.Could such a return signal that Hugh Jackman isn’t done with Wolverine quite yet?
Having Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine appear inAvengers:Secret Warscould serve multiple purposes. It could serve as a cool cameo for fans of the originalX-Menmovies, while also providing a way for Jackman to hand over the claws to his successor. An appearance by Hugh Jackman almost has to happen, now.
5Chris Evans' Human Torch
By the timeAvengers: Secret Warsis released, fans will have already been introduced to the MCU version of the Human Torch. However, Marvel fans have not forgotten about the firstFantastic 4movie to be released in theaters. While the movie wasn’t to most people’s taste, fans did agree that Chris Evans was a good Human Torch.
it is also impossible to forget that Chris Evans has also made some waves in the MCU alreadyasCaptain America.Just imagine the interplay between two versions of the Human Torchand two versions of Chris Evans on screen.
4Wesley Snipes' Blade
Wesley Snipes' Bladewas the first Marvel hero to appear in a successful superhero blockbuster. As such, it makes sense to pay homage to such a legacy by including this version of the character in something as big asAvengers: Secret Wars. The MCU may also have its own version of Blade running around the MCU by this point, so including another Blade can add a wrinkle to the journey of that character.
This version ofBladewill have to tone down some of the gore to fit the PG-13 rating, but Wesley Snipes is a must-include cameo for die-hard Marvel fans, especially since he paved the road the MCU now walks.
3Ian McKellan’s Magneto
Avengers: Secret Warsisn’tjust open to cameos from superheroes. Ian McKellan has always given a powerhouse performance whenever he shows up as Magneto. As a result, fans would definitely love another chance to see the character once more.
Both Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart had a chance to say goodbye to their respectiveX-Mencharacters inLogan, and havereprised their roles since then due to some multiverse shenanigans. It only seems right that Ian McKellan gets the same chance to say goodbye to his character by revisiting Magneto one more time.
2Chris Evans' Captain America
The Multiverse isn’t just a device to bring back actors from other universes.Avengers: Secret Warscould also use this trope to bring back characters lost in time. One key character who is used to being lost in time is Captain America, Steve Rogers, last seen inAvengers: Endgame.
The last time fans saw the MCU’s Captain America, leader of the Avengers, he was alive and well in the 1940s. The Multiverse Saga may continue without him, but such a big battle inSecret Warscould tempt the character out of retirement and give movie-goers some more time with Chris Evans as Captain America.
1Robert Downey Jr. Is Iron Man
Iron Man did not escape the battle inAvengers: Endgame. Tony Stark had to sacrifice himself by using the Infinity Stones to get rid of Thanos and his invading army. However, most MCU fans know that death might not be permanent. After all, Loki, certainly notanunderused MCU villain, has died multiple times, and now he has a show on Disney+.
The Multiverse is a tool that can pick upIron Man at any point in history or from an alternate universe. Either way, any version of Iron Man that cameos inAvengers: Secret Warsmust be played by RDJ. His turn as the character in the firstIron Manmovie started the studio down this path after all.
