Batgirldirectors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah gave fans a new look at Leslie Grace’s Batgirl as production wrapped on the upcoming DC Extended Universe film. The highly-anticipated project will stream on HBO Max later this year, though an exact release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Batgirlwill introduce the titular character to the live-actionDC Universe, though not much else is known about the film’s plot. Grace was cast as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in July 2021, and she will be joined by a star-studded ensemble that includesJ.K Simmons as Jim Gordon, Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman —a role he famously played in 1989’sBatmanand its 1992 sequel.

Batgirlbegan filming at the end of November in Scotland and has now officially wrapped. El Arbi took to social media to celebrate, posting a photo of himself alongside Grace and Fallah. The snapshot shows the trio smiling for the camera, while Grace is wearing her suit and mask. “#BATGIRL !!! It was such a great experience and we are thankful to the amazing crew and cast for making this movie next level !!! STAY TUNED Y’ALL !!! #alhamdulillah,” the director wrote in the caption.
Grace recently announced on Instagram thatBatgirlhad almost finished filming, sharing a series of photos showcasing memorable moments during the production of the forthcoming film. “This is a “it’s our last week of shooting #batgirl and i’m getting emotionalllll” dump🥴🥺🤎 be prepared for moreeeee,” she captioned her post. Grace went on to thank Scotland for “welcoming [them] with open arms and gifting [them] the perfect city to create [their] Gotham.”
Hopefully,Batgirlwill do justice to its comic book counterpart. Nevertheless, fans are already excited about the return of Keaton, who previouslyteased his appearance as Batmanin the film on social media earlier this year. The 70-year-old actor posted a picture that showed his shadow donning the instantly recognizable silhouette of his Batman costume but added no caption —although he didn’t need to, as the image spoke for itself.
Meanwhile, fans have more DC Extended Universe projects to look forward to while waiting for the release ofBatgirl, asBlack Adam,DC League of Super-Pets, andShazam 2are all debuting later this year. These projects are also very different in their tone and themes, withBlack Adambeing a slightly somber action film and DCLeague of Super-Petsbeing a lighthearted animated film. WhileShazam 2is targeted at a more mature audience, it will likely include the same silly humor and fun action as its 2019 predecessor.
