Summary

The recent in-game seasons ofBattlefield 2042have been very well-received by the game’s community, doing well to negate a lot of the longstanding criticisms it has faced ever since its launch. Following these updates, the title has become much more reflective of the multiplayer experiences of past games, and there is no reason for this not to continue in the upcoming Season 7.

Season 7 ofBattlefield 2042is expected to launch in March, with little to no details currently being available about the in-game event. With that being said, it seems logical that Season 7 will try and emulate the content of recent successful seasons, and it may be better for the title to look to the past of the franchise to bolster other gameplay elements like the underused Portal mode of the game.

Past Maps Could Revitalize Portal in Battlefield 2042’s Season 7

Recent months have been very productive for the DICE’s latest game, with smart updates and free-to-play weekends seeingBattlefield 2042break its all-time player-counts. October’s Season 6 was a real highlight for the release, introducing the following content to the game:

The Redacted map was a standout feature of Season 6, finally bringing a more intimate map toBattlefield 2042that many fans felt had been sorely missing. Redacted does away with the many vehicles of largerBattlefieldexperiences, making players rely on ground combat in tight hallways, creating a much more tense and action-packed level of gameplay.

Fans are already calling for more experiences similar to Redacted, andthe upcomingBattlefield 2042Season 7 should capitalize on thiswhile players are still engaged. While creating brand-new small maps would be welcomed by fans, it may encroach on the current success of Redacted, so shaking things up with a large map could be beneficial. However, DICE may also be able to provide close quarters maps at the same time as a new large map using one feature: Portal.

Operation Metro and Locker Could Be the Key to Battlefield 2042’s Season 7

Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode allows players to create time-bending experiencesusing assets from a variety of pastBattlefieldgames, yet its post-launch support has been considered underwhelming. The longstanding controversies aroundBattlefield 2042may have played a large factor in the lack of attention that Portal has received, but there is still time for DICE to salvage the mode by giving it more attention in future seasonal updates.

DICE has been vocal about the inspiration behind Redacted, stating how pastBattlefieldmaps like Operation Metro and Locker were the blueprint for the new smaller-scale experience. Metro and Locker came fromBattlefield 3and4respectively, but are currently being absentfrom Portal’s usable assetsto the disappointment of many fans. If Metro and Locker were added toBattlefield 2042with Season 7, then DICE could smartly kill two birds with one stone by bolstering Portal while building on the success of recent maps like Redacted.
