Summary

Glasses used to be thought of as nerdy accessories worn only by bookworms and dweebs. However, these days, a pair of specs is no longer seen as uncool. The right pair of glasses can transform someone and make them look distinguished and wise beyond their years.

These characters don’t let bad eyesight stop them from being epic warriors and unstoppable heroes.

Jade Curtiss, Tales of the Abyss

Don’t be fooled by Jade’s charming, cheerful demeanor. He’s a capable warrior who can do serious damage with a spear on the battlefield.

Jade’s snide remarks are second only to his stylish pair of glasses. Unlike other video game characters who wear glasses, Jade’s specs are on his face for a purpose. They actually limit his fonic sight, which is an energy force that creates the entire universe in the series.

Sarah Jerand

Most 13-year-olds can’t create battle weapons, but with an extraordinarily high IQ, Jeff is not the average teenager. He wears thick glasses, presumably with a high prescription, to see what he’s doing as he spies on enemies and converts broken objects into high-tech machinery. He also has access to someshockingly dangerous weaponsfor a kid his age.

Lucca is a scientist, but not in the vein of themad scientists in other video games. Thanks to her glasses, she can see well enough to shoot enemies from far away. She can also swing her hammer at anyone who gets too close. Lucca is a smart, capable member of the party, and with her cropped purple hair and square-framed glasses, she’s also one of the most stylish.

Futaba Sakura, Persona 5

One needs to be able to see to be a good navigator. With her large round glasses, Futaba Sakura inPersona 5rises to the challenge.

It’s unclear whether spending too much time on the internet caused Futaba’s poor eyesight, but one thing’s for sure,Persona 5wouldn’t be the same with her. Futaba’s glasses have made her a fan favorite, but it’s also due to her willingness to push her boundaries and face her anxiety head-on, even though she has one of thesaddest storylines in video games.

Kyosuke Kagami, Rival Schools

Schoolyard bullies may pick on the kid who wears glasses, but Kyosuke is never going to have this problem. This fighter is one of the fastest characters inRival Schoolsand its sequel,Project Justice.

Kyosuke’s glasses must help him see his opponents in combat. He’s known for some of the best moves in fighting games, including a double projectile attack, a high kick, and a lightning bolt that bursts through the ground. Even with the glasses, no one will be calling Kyosuke a nerd any time soon.

Otacon, Metal Gear Solid 4

With a khaki trench coat and thin glasses, Otacon is a sharp-dressed man. He’s smart, caring, and a faithful friend toevery version of Snake in theMetal Geargames.

Snake is the leader, while Otacon is the genius behind the scenes. He creates many pieces of advanced technology for Snake and the other soldiers, not limited to an eyepatch with imaging technology, a VR simulator to test weapons, and most notably, the metal gear machines for which the series gets its name.

Joseph Oda, The Evil Within

Joseph Oda is a police officer in Krimson City. Along with his partners Sebastian and Juli, he is tasked with investigating the mysterious homicides in Beacon City Hospital.

Through his sharp pair of glasses, Joseph Oda sees some of thescariest monsters in video games. InThe Evil Within, he’s tasked with taking down all kinds of creatures, each more horrendous than the last. Joseph stands out from his colleagues by being calm, perceptive, and calculating. He is more adept at solving challenging puzzles than he is at running headfirst into danger.

Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance, Half-Life 2

First-person shooters likeDoomandWolfensteinare usually fast-paced action games without a detailed storyline.Half-Lifeand its sequel flip that on its head, putting a bespectacled hero front and center as the main protagonist.

Gordon is more than a physicist. He wields a crowbar to battle some of the most intimidating aliens in gaming. What sets him apart from other protagonists is his thick pair of glasses and the fact that he never says a word in any of the games. Gordon is a stoic everyman thrust into unusual circumstances.

Bayonetta with guns in Bayonetta 3

Bayonetta is one of the most iconic characters to wear glasses in video games. After all, she needs to see to engage in hand-to-hand combat and accurately shoot angels in the four games released in the franchise to date.
