Summary

The strange glitch that de-leveled Glyphs inDiablo 4has been fixed by Blizzard, though many players still consider the new Abattoir of Zir to be brutally over-tuned. WhileDiablo 4’s Season of Bloodwas favorably received by the community when it launched, Abattoir of Zir’s release has been surprisingly contentious by comparison. Meant to serve as the capstone to Season 2, this new endgame activity forDiablo 4is considered to be the hardest content released for the game thus far. It’s an expensive activity that demands plenty of Glyph Powder to even undertake, and a single death locks players out of the attempt.

to prepare players for theAbattoir of Zir inDiablo 4, Blizzard rolled out an update that was meant to make Glyph leveling faster, but the reality turned out to be the opposite. Not only did Patch 1.2.3 accidentally level down player Glyphs, but players also reported needing more experience points to level their normal Glyphs, thus completely nullifying the “buff” that Patch 1.2.3 was meant to provide.

Thankfully, these two issues turned out to be related, so when Blizzard rolled out thelatestDiablo 4hotfix, both issues were addressed. Players across all platforms should now be able to see their correct Paragon Glyph level displayed, and Paragon Glyph experience should no longer be increased. Furthermore, the extensive player feedback provided by players on Abattoir of Zir’s difficulty has been acknowledged by the developers, as Adam Fletcher announced that theDiablo 4team was working on a new hotfix for Abattoir of Zir that would be released just in time for the weekend.

While there is certainly an argument to be made about having content designed for the top echelon of players, and Abattoir of Zir certainly fits that category, it is understandable that theDiablo 4community hoped the new pinnacle dungeon would fulfill a similar role to Greater Rifts fromReaper of Souls. Thenew bosses added inDiablo 4Season 2have greatly enriched its endgame, which was critiqued at launch for lacking content variety, but many fans still feel there is something missing.

For players who find Abattoir of Zir too challenging, it’s okay to take a break until the Midwinter Blight event launches on December 12, and barring that, Season 3 will hopefully continue the course-correction that began with Season 2. Though some rumors about theupcomingVessel of Hatredexpansionhave caused concern in the community, the current state ofDiablo 4is trending upwards.
