While many would argue thatDestiny 2is in the best state the game has been in since it launched in 2017, the experience still isn’t perfect. Certain elements like the overall narrative and seasonal activities like Astral Alignment have been big hits with the player base. However, for many players, there’s a ticking timer behind the scenes, inching closer to a time when the content will beremoved inside of the Destiny Content Vault, a controversal feature that ultimately retires activities, destinations, gear, and more.
The Destiny Content Vault came about with the launch of the Beyond Light expansion, removing classic destinations like Io, campaigns like the Red War, and more. Many players are unhappy with the removal of content, though Bungie maintains that this is necessary for the longterm health of the game which can’t continue to keep expanding. With the Forsaken expansion the next piece of the game to get vaulted, many have also begun to worry about the fate ofBungie’s Anniversary Contentand when that would be removed from the game as well.

With the Witch Queen expansion quickly approaching, the list of content getting vaulted continues to grow. A recent guide was published by Bungie, detailingall of the content getting placed in the Destiny Content Vault for Year 5, including the HELM, Tangled Shore, and the Forsaken Campaign to name a few. Responding to Young Horses co-founder Philip Tibitoski on Twitter, Destiny 2 Game Director Joe Blackburn confirmed that the Anniversary Content wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The news should come as a bit of relief for players who continue to grind out reputation with Xur in an attempt to unlock the special armor ornaments or for those who are searching for the perfect rolls for the various armor and weapons added. This also means more time to finish the Vidmaster seal, or maybe even attempt crazy new challenges like one individual who decided toflawlessly solo the Grasp of Avarice dungeon while only using blue gear.
While fans continue to debate the existance of the content vault, Bungie has confirmed that not everything that enters the vault will remain there. In fact,Destiny 2has already seen the Moon destination from the first game return, and there has been plenty of hints at more content coming back with a new coat of paint and more. Back in August, Blackburn again confirmed that two previously vaulted Crucible maps would be making their return in season 16, tweaked to be compatible with recent game engine updates.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
