Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis set to be the best-selling game of 2019, and it’s played by millions of people worldwide on a daily basis. As such, it’s no surprise thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehas a massive and passionate fan base, with some fans very vocal about things they think should change about the game. However, sometimes these fans take things too far when offering their suggestions to Infinity Ward, with some sending horrible private messages to co-design director for multiplayer, Joe Cecot.
As revealed on theModern Warfaresubreddit, Cecot has received private messages from players talking about his children “dying horrible deaths.” Cecot didn’t elaborate on the specifics of these messages or point out anyone that may have sent them. Cecot mentioned this when responding to a fan who said they didn’t blameInfinity Wardfor avoiding theCall of Duty: Modern Warfaresubreddit. He admitted that seeing the negativity on the subreddit “can be rough,” and that he is spending less time on the subreddit as a result of the messages that have been sent to him.

As of late, theCall of Duty: Modern Warfaresubreddit has been focused on what they perceive to be silence on Infinity Ward’s part. Some fans have expressed the opinion thatInfinity Ward was much more open to communicationbefore launch, but hasn’t communicated with fans as much since then. It seems as though the content of the messages some fans have been sending developers has played a role in this.

It’s also possible that Infinity Ward may not feel the need to respond to fans that complain about things that the studio has no interest in changing. Take theCall of Duty: Modern Warfaremini-map controversy, for example. Some fans want the mini-map to be changed so that it behaves more like the mini-map in previousCall of Dutygames, but Infinity Ward would rather keep it the way it is. It doesn’t seem practical for Infinity Ward to respond to every fan complaining about the mini-map, especially when the studio reportedly has no plans to change it anyway.
And while Infinity Ward may not always be responding directly to fans in messages and the like, the studio does pay attention to its community’s concerns. While it took a few patches to balance it properly, theoverpowered 725 shotgunwas addressed fairly quickly by the studio, as has various other bugs and issues.
There are certainly some other changes that fans would like to see inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, though not all of them will actually be implemented in the game. Hopefully fans can express their concerns aboutCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewithout sending the kinds of PMs that Joe Cecot has been receiving.
