This week has been the week ofCall of Duty: Warzone. Now that there’s a free-to-playCODgame on PC and consoles, players have been flocking to it in the millions and trying outeverythingWarzonehas to offer. But not everything about the game is perfect, and players have noticed an odd issue with how the game credits taking out an opponent.

Battle royale games handle this a bit differently than more traditional shooters, as players aren’t fully killed when they lose all of their health but are merely knocked down and disabled, giving their teammates a chance to revive them before they’re finished off for good. Usually, battle royale kills are credited to whoever downs a player, since they’re the ones who drained their health, but that’s not the case inCall of Duty: Warzone. Instead, the game attributes the kill to whoever lands the final blow on the downed player.

This is among thethings that players probably won’t know before startingWarzone, and while it’s not the most game-breaking issue out there, players have taken issue with it, as it incentivizes letting one’s teammates do the dirty work of downing an armed player and then swooping in before they can finish them off. And since landing kills grants more XP than getting assists, this can have a tangible effect on players’ progression.

The good news is that Infinity Ward is aware of this problem and will be fixing it soon. In fact, according to Joe Cecot, the studio’s co-design director for multiplayer, the fix has already been implemented internally and just needs to be added to the game itself. As for when that will happen, Cecot has said the fix will be included inWarzone’s next large-scale update.

Naturally, this will make it a little harder torack up a huge kill counton average, but odds are most players will welcome the change.Warzoneis an intense game, after all, and it takes plenty of skill for players to constantly hold their own in the numerous firefights they can get into over the course of a single match. A system that properly recognizes who outplays who will go a long way in maintaining player satisfaction, which the game will need if it wants to keep them coming back for more.

Call of Duty: Warzoneis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
