Battlefield 5’s highly anticipated upcoming War in the Pacific expansion is out on October 31 and EA is using the remaining week to build up hype for the event. Today saw EA release a new cinematic trailer for War in the Pacific, capturing the massive battle at Iwo Jima.
The trailer capturesBattlefield 5’s two new factions, the Americans and the Japanese, as well as new weapons, vehicles, and more. Perhaps the most exciting moment in the trailer, however, was the tease of the fondly remembered Wake Island map.

Theclassic Wake Island mapfirst debuted in the originalBattlefield 1942and its addition toBattlefield 5will be its ninth iteration in the franchise. It’s particularly well known for its Conquest Assault mode version, in which 5 flags are positioned across the horseshoe-shaped island and must be captured by the invading force. It’s unclear ifBattlefield 5’s Wake Island will have a version available for Conquest Assault. Wake Island won’t launch with War in the Pacific, but will have a delayed release in December.
At launch, War in the Pacific will launch with two different new maps. The first is Iwo Jima, as showcased in the new trailer. Iwo Jima will have players battling over its open beaches and then into the tunnels of Mount Suribachi. Map two is Pacific Storm, which features a chain of islands. Players will have to battle island to island using boats, amphibious tanks, and aircraft, battling for control every step of the way. EA says Pacific Storm is inspired byBattlefield 4’s Paracel Storm map.
The new expansion will also offer a new arsenal toBattlefield 5players. The M1 Garand will be making a triumphant return, alongside 3 other WW2-era weapons. These include the Type 99 Arisaka for theRecon class, which is a bolt-action rifle, the Type 100 SMG for the Medic class, and the M1919A6 machine gun for the Support class.Battlefield 5’s live service Tides of War will also be adding the M3 Grease Gun, the Nambu Type 2A, the Type 97 LMG, and the M1918A2 at a later date.
War in the Pacific is the fifth chapter inBattlefield 5’s Tides of War live service. Chapter One, Overture, added the Practice Range and vehicle customization, as well as a single-player story set at the end of World War 2. Chapter Two, Lightning Strikes, added a co-op game mode and the Rush multiplayer mode.Trial By Fire added the Firestorm battle royale mode. And Defying the Oddsadded several maps set in Greece, France, and Norway respectively. It’s unclear if War in the Pacific isBattlefield 5’s last expansion chapter, but it would be a fitting end of the WW2 game to be sure.
