Summary
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertysold 4.3 million units in its first two months on the market, CD Projekt Red has announced. This sales update is another strong indicator that the expansion’s commercial performance did well to match theincredible critical reception thatCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertyenjoyedon its release.
The sole expansion for the hit dystopian RPG launched on September 26, five days after the game received its largest patch to date, update 2.0. CDPR subsequently revealed thatCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertysold 3 million copiesduring its launch week, labeling it as a major success.
That figure has grown by nearly 50% since then, withCD Projekt announcingthat Phantom Liberty hit 4.3 million in lifetime sales two months into its release. Reflecting on that milestone, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski described the initial success of Phantom Liberty as an “important achievement” that further bolsters the company’s future plans for the franchise. For clarity, theCyberpunk 2077sequel was officially confirmedin October 2022, and is currently in pre-production.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Sales Data
The new sales update onCyberpunk 2077: Phantom Libertywas shared as part of CD Projekt’s latest consolidated financials for Q3 2023. The report itself also revealed that the expansion’s current attachment rate sits at approximately 20%, suggesting roughly one in fiveCyberpunk 2077owners had already bought the game’s first and only piece of DLC by late November. However, CDPR’s previous confirmation that the base game hit 25 million in lifetime sales as of October indicates that a more accurate Phantom Liberty attachment rate is in the ballpark of 17%. That would mean approximately one in sixCyberpunk 2077owners purchased the expansion to date.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition Is Likely To Boost Phantom Liberty Sales
The overall percentage ofCyberpunk 2077players who own Phantom Liberty is only likely to increase moving forward, not least becauseCyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Editionis now on the horizon. The bundle that combines the 2020 RPG with its sole expansion is scheduled for a physical and digital release on December 5. Since Phantom Liberty is only available for PC and the current-generation consoles, the Ultimate Edition is also set to circumvent the PS4 and Xbox One, whose versions of the game were a big part of the reason why theCyberpunk 2077launch was mired in technical issues.
CD Projekt’s latest financial report also revealed that approximately one-third of its workforce is still supportingCyberpunk 2077, although that entire team is currently in the process of transitioning to other projects. A portion of the company’s staffers will possibly refocus on the second entry in the franchise, code-named Orion, as part of that effort. However, many of them are expected to first be moved toThe Witcher 4, AKA Project Polaris. Unlike theCyberpunk 2077sequel, Project Polaris is already in active production, with CDPR previously suggesting the game might launch as early as late 2025.
