SomeDead by Daylightplayers are unhappy with the game’s latest killer, the Knight. Taking to Reddit, several survivor players have voiced their displeasure at seeing yet anotherDead by Daylightkiller whose main strength comes from being “anti-loop.”
WithinDead by Daylight, the term “looping” is used to describe the game’s primary chase mechanic, with survivors running away from killers and using the environment to build distance or slow their pursuer down. The term “anti-loop” is applied to killers with powers that can force survivors into lose-lose situations at a loop, forcing them to get hit regardless of what they do, and is seen by many to be an instance of uncreative and unenjoyable game design. Since these killers can be frustrating, they’re typically notranked as the strongest killers inDead by Daylight.

The latest killer to be branded as an anti-looper is the Knight, who released as part of theDead by DaylightForged in Fog chapter. Being able to summon one of three guards at any point throughout the trial, The Knight is capable of preventing survivors from looping areas of the map by summoning one of his guards, who will chase the survivor. If the Knight approaches from one direction and his guard does the same from another, the survivor is left with no option but to take a hit or leave the loop, which will simply prolong the inevitable by a few seconds. Taking to Reddit, user Virtual_Attitude550 commented on the Knight’s design philosophy through the use of a meme:
Following on from the Artist and the Dredge, the Knight is the third killer released within the last year to be labeled by the community as an anti-looper. Despite the Knight being adifficultDead by Daylightkiller to master, the survivor side of the community are voicing their criticisms of how killers centered around denying the use of loops entirely make the game uninteractive and unenjoyable.
Perhaps the reason whyDead by Daylighthas released so many anti-loop killers as of late can be found in how these killers are regarded in terms of strength, with only the Artist really being an above-average killer while the Dredge and Knight seem to be quite mediocre, all things considered. Despite anti-loop being uninteractive and frustrating for many, that doesn’t directly translate to being oppressive, as evidenced by recentDead by Daylightkill rates. Though these ratings do not factor in player ranks and disconnects and thus should be taken with a pinch of salt, anti-loop killers do not seem to be performing particularly well when it comes to securing kills, even if they are able to end chases quickly.
While it is understandable thatDead by Daylight’s anti-loop killers may feel downright oppressive in chase, giving survivors no real option but to be downed in many cases, they typically have weaknesses in the form of little map pressure and mobility, which strong players using some of thebest survivor perks inDead by Daylightcan exploit in order to win difficult games through optimizing other aspects of their gameplay.
Dead by Daylightis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
