Summary
Dead by Daylightrecently announced thatChild’s Play’s Chucky will be its next licensed killer. Chucky isn’t the most popular slasher icon, especially when compared to others such as Michael Myers or Freddy Krueger, but he’s always maintained a rarity about him with regard to his unique appearance. This undoubtedly madeadapting Chucky intoDead by Daylight’s killer rosterchallenging for Behaviour, but players’ experiences with him in the PTB seem to be largely positive thus far ahead of his arrival in live servers on November 28.
Once Chucky has been added, though, fans will instantly be back to speculating about which licensed characters will arrive next. There are already many reputable sources forDead by Daylightleaks that fans can follow for that information if they want to try connecting threads and seeing potential characters ahead of time, but one horror IP seems like it is an inevitability at some point forDead by Daylight. IfFive Nights at Freddy’sis only going to persist and become a huge live-action franchise following its impressive box office run, it seems like a perfect time forDead by Daylightto commit to it.

To say that Behaviour hasn’t consideredFive Nights at Freddy’syet would probably be absurd. This is because Behaviour has demonstrated countless times that it does have its fanbase’s interests in mind, even if that doesn’t always come across in terms of what is prioritized in gameplay patches.
New survivor and killer characters seem to always touch on a corner of its fanbase, though, and while not everyone might be a fan of eachlicensed horror IPthere are surely ones that appeal to a broader audience. Many players might not have been terribly familiar with Chucky before his announcement forDead by Daylight, for example.
But becauseFive Nights at Freddy’sis a relatively new video game IP with a live-action adaptation having been recently released, there is a greater chance that it would have visibility and prominence inDead by Daylight’s current playerbase. That’s been proven true as well infans’ wish lists forDead by DaylightDLC collaborationswhere many of them include at least one animatronic fromFive Nights at Freddy’s, whether they would prefer Freddy, Springtrap, Nightmare Chica, Withered Bonnie, or anyone else.
Interestingly, because theFive Nights at Freddy’sadaptation was a Blumhouse movie, andBlumhouse is producing aDead by Daylightmovie, the real-life tie-ins are already fashioning tethers. This partnership doesn’t mean it needs to extend into perpetual crossovers, but it wouldn’t be random, either.
Behaviour knows that fans want aFive Nights at Freddy’sDLC and knowing how many alternate animatronic skins or maps could be involved via the games alone, extrapolating that outward and featuring Mike Schmidt and Vanessa survivors with Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Lail’s likenesses would be brilliant.
There’s a ton of potential there for futureDead by Daylightcontent and with its ties to Blumhouse it wouldn’t seem necessarily difficult to obtain that license unless Scott Cawthon possibly declined. Regardless,Dead by Daylighthas that IP in its back pocket for now and will hopefully be able to unveil it with a ton of exciting content when fans least expect it.
