Savathun and the Pyramid ships have become the new focus onDestiny 2. Both were hinted at sinceDestiny 1, but players are finally getting closer to them.Savathuncaptured people’s attention during theTaken Kingexpansion because of the Books of Sorrow lore. Through the voice of Oryx, the Books of Sorrow described who Savathun is.

InDestiny 2, Savathun’s presence in the game since the Red War has been strong. She’s been mentioned in strikes, the lore, dungeons, story missions, and quests. During theBeyond Lightreveal, Bungie introduced the expansion for 2021 called theWitch-Queen. So what information is there about Savathun, theWitch-Queen?
10Savathun Is Oryx’s Sister
Sathona gave her freedom away to become strong and immortal by taking in the larvae of the Worm Gods. That’s when she became Savathun. Her siblings Aurash becameAuryxand Xi Ro became Xivu Arath. As written in the Books of Sorrow, Auryx slew Savathun to become the Taken King, Oryx. Oryx brought Savathun back to life with the ashes of his dead enemies. She eventually separated ways from her siblings and headed through a singularity. Even though her whereabouts are a mystery, she took the throne as the Taken Queen after the death of the Taken King.
9She Is A Trickster
Savathun is known for her cunning and trickery. Oryx had used trickery to trap and kill the Dakaua Nest. When Savathun was reborn with their ashes she said, “I am trickery, and you have conjured me back with trickery.” This makes her motives and actions unreliable and questionable. In The Festering Core strike, Eris says “We will know her next move only when she makes it - and only if we’re wise enough to recognize it." Savathun has used tricks to betray even the ones closest to her such as Oryx andCrota.
8Quria
Quria, Blade Transform is aVex Mindthat wanted to use the Sword Logic and investigate worm larvae. Savathun tricked Crota into cutting a hole into space that allowed Vex to enter Oryx’s throne world. After Oryx defeated the Vex and Quria, he turned the Vex Mind into a Taken. Oryx then gifted Taken Quria to Savathun and that was all part of Savathun’s plan. During the Red War campaign, Guardians came across Ir Arok, Tongue of Quria who was turning Vex into Taken. Quria is a strong ally of Savathun, especially since it has learned how to Take.
7Savathun Used Riven
Riven was an Ahamkara that was brought to Mara Sov by her brother Uldren. After the Battle of Saturn, Oryx discovered the Dreaming City and turned Riven into a Taken. However, after Oryx’s death, Savathun bonded with Riven. The death of Cayde-6 led to the death of Uldren and then Riven’s death.

Guardians wishing Riven’s death and killing the Ahamkara granted a last wish, which was not the Guardian’s wish. That wish was Savathun’s. This wish was to spread darkness across the Dreaming City and to have Quria put it in a 3-week loop.
6Influence on Solar System
Savathun’s presence was strongly felt on Titan through the Savathun’s Song strike, in the Dreaming City with Riven, and on Io with Quria and Irausk, Herald of Savathun. She was mentioned in the Deathly Tremors adventure on Mars where the Hive asked Savathun to emerge from the Deep. She also placed herEyeson those worlds and on Mercury in the Season of Arrivals. Even some of Hawthorn’s bounties in the Tower have “The Witch, Insidious” written on them. Also, she was mentioned in the Lake of Shadows strike after a Red Legion Taken was found. Her influence on the solar system is strong and widespread.
5Gahlran’s Crown of Sorrow
Gahlran was a Loyalist for Emperor Calus, but he wore the Crown of Sorrow which made him go insane. This was one of Savathun’s tricks meant to control Calus. The Crown of Sorrow lets the Sorrow-Bearer control Hive and Hive magic, but Savathun is in control of the Sorrow-Bearer. In the Total Victory challenge, The Witch, Insidious says “Gahlran is a quick learner. His [deceptions] serve him well. He serves [me] in return.” The Witch, Insidious is Savathun who has called her self “Savathun, insidious” in the XLI: Dreadnaught lore. Here, her plan to control Calus did not work.
4She Is Using Lavinia
Lavinia was a Cryptarch, but she was not accepted for her research about the Nine. She entered the realm of the Nine but was captured by Savathun shortly after. The lore called The Witch says Lavinia was killed and reborn somewhere else. She saw a “clever-looking” older lady pouring tea in a bone cup. The Witch reminds Lavinia that when she was born, The Witch told Lavinia’s mother that Lavinia was lucky.

Savathun, when she was Sathona, was described as being clever in the II: The Hateful Verse lore. She has also used disguises as noted in XLVI: The Gift Mast lore and she disguised herself here as the old lady. This lore piece means that Savathun may have a lot of knowledge about the Nine’s secrets.
3Wants To Learn Necromancy
Nokris is a necromancer and it collides with the Sword Logic which is why Oryx had banished him. However, Nokris had the help of Xol. Nokris made it out alive after theStrange Terrainstrike and was brought into Savathun’s court. Without Xol, Nokris was directionless and Savathun used this to her advantage. Savathun made a pact with Nokris so that she can learn necromancy and Nokris in return will learn Quria’s talent, which is to Take. Their alliance may find a way to surpass the Sword Logic.
2Shaxx’s Savathun’s Song
During theProphecydungeon, a conversation between Eris Morn and the Drifter revealed Savathun’s Song. The Drifter mentioned that Lord Shaxx claimed he learned a song from Eris Morn. Eris hummed the tune and the Drifter recognized it. Eris then explains that it is Savathun’s Song, a viral chant. Once the song is heard, it cannot be forgotten. She also tells Drifter that the Ahamkara bone near Shaxx at the Tower is probably what is causing it. Surprisingly, the song players hear while logging on toDestiny 2is also Savathun’s Song.
1Savathun’s Interference
When the Triangle ships were calling the Guardian towards the Tree of Silver Wings on Io, Savathunintercepted. She brought the Guardian into her court with enemies. After defeating them, Eris brought the Guardian back to Io. In the lore called PETULANT, Eris claims that Savathun is interfering because she is jealous of their access to the Pyramid. The lore also suggests that they may be on the path of discovering something that threatens her. This may also be why she planted her Eyes to watch over the worlds that have the Pyramid ships. However, the lore also suggests that this could all be a trick.
