Swords have been a mainstay in guardians arsenal sinceDestiny’s first large-scale expansion,The Taken King, and oneDestiny 2player is showcasing their appreciation of the weapon with their replica collection of the first three exotic swords in the series' history. There is no shortage of swords for players to bring into battle which, along with bows and more recent addition of glaives inThe Witch Queen, guardians can live out their truest space wizard fantasy with weapons to match. However, it all began with three swords born out of the titular Taken King’s own sword, which have been brought to life with careful accuracy in said replicas.
Swords have typically served as a melee-focused heavy weapon option for guardians acrossDestinyandDestiny 2, making them especially useful in spaces where explosives could threaten themselves and reloading could leave them open to enemies. At the time of the weapon class' introduction, rocket launchers and machines guns were the two main options for the heavy weapon slot, with the only alternate option being the Vex Mythoclast exotic linear fusion rifle. The addition of options such as heavy grenade launchers and heavy sniper rifles gave the slot more variety as the series continued, though swords would manage to stay within most players' weapon rotations for one reason or another.

It all began, though, with the introduction of the Dark Drinker, Bolt-Caster, and Raze Lighter followingThe Taken King’s campaign and thedefeat of Oryx’s physical body. Reddit user Curious Echo appears to have a strong appreciation for these weapons and the impression they left on the series, sharing an image of replica swords they have on display in their home. The exotic swords are captured in striking detail as each feature the unique blade-design and colored-stone to reflect the sword’s use of Solar, Arc, or Void energy.
Echo’s apparent love for the swords is understandable given the impact the weapons had on theDestinycommunity at the time of their introduction. The weapons became immediate player-favorites due to the high damage output coupled with the increased mobility they could provide guardians in the right circumstances.Dark Drinker, Bolt-Caster, and Raze Lighter’s impact can still be seen inDestiny 2today, as many legendary swords feature a heavy attack taken directly from one of these three exotic swords.
It is just the latest example ofDestiny 2players sharing their love of the game and universe with replicas of their favorite pieces of gear. Aside from the swords, the game’s many hand cannons such as theThornand Hawkmoon have had replicas created by artistic-minded players who want to hold their favorite arms in real life.
