Summary

Destiny 2’s story is almost 10 years old now, considering the tales told with the original title from 2014, and The Final Shape will see the end of the current Light and Darkness saga, possibly starting a new one with the game’s new episodic model. Yet,Destiny 2’s best stories have not always been told traditionally, such as through cutscenes and dialogue with some of its iconic characters. Instead, lore books and lore cards have done a lot of heavy lifting, and there are some characters inDestiny 2that are incredibly powerful - possibly more than the protagonist.

WhileDestiny 2’s main characterhas done a lot of the main killing in the series, slaying three Hive Gods and countless other powerful enemies, they are not necessarily the most powerful of all time. There are many examples of why this is the case, and some characters have been around for centuries, defending The Last City and humanity as a whole in the darkest of times.

Osiris Before Season of the Hunt

In one of the most shocking off-screen events in the history of the game,Destiny 2’s Season of the Hunt killedSagira, Osiris' Ghost, leaving the powerful Warlock Lightless and alone. However, at his peak, Osiris was likely the most powerful Guardian to ever exist. Not only was he Warlock Vanguard before Ikora, whom he trained, but he also had the unique ability to create clones of himself made of The Traveler’s Light.

His combat prowess was unrivaled, to the point that he could cast multiple Light abilities from different elements simultaneously. In an old lore book, Osiris seemingly shines so bright that Eris Morn is stunned by it, implying he could have been Radiant inDestiny 2at all times, even outside of battle.

Destiny 2 Ikora Rey

Ikora

Ikora Rey isDestiny 2’s Warlock Vanguard, and has been since Osiris was cast out of The Last City by The Speaker. Although she seems stern and reserved, many lore books depict her as still struggling with Cayde-6’s death inDestiny 2, such as the former Hunter Vanguard’s nightmare appearing to her in Season of the Haunted. Still, she is one of the most powerful Guardians alive, which is also shown in one of Season of the Splicer’s cutscenes or in The Witch Queen campaign. Ikora was also the only one ever capable of defeating Shaxx in the Crucible.

Saint-14

Similar to his beloved Osiris, Saint-14 is arguably one of the most powerful Lightbearers to ever live. Saint-14 fought the Vex alone for countless years, millennia even, and he was only defeated once they specifically made a Vex Mind capable of predicting his actions accurately and suppressing his Light.Destiny 2’s Season of Dawn saw Saint-14 come backthanks to Osiris' efforts, though, and ever since he’s been a mainstay in the cast. To this day, he is probably the most powerful Titan in the series.

Destiny 2’s Most Powerful Characters - Notable Mentions

Shaxx is one of the strongest characters inDestiny 2thanks to his prowess in defeating fellow Guardians, and his lore dates back to the age of the Warlords. Ana Bray is probably the most powerful Hunter inDestiny 2, as she is capable of shooting her Golden Gun much more than just six times, as canonical Guardians do, all while leaving wells burning of Light for weeks. WithCayde-6 returning in The Final Shape, there’s a chance players will be able to see more of him in action against the forces of Darkness, but his sendoff cutscene in the Forsaken campaign saw him cast multiple Supers and Solar abilities in a row, earning him the Hunter Vanguard role alone.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
