Destiny 2released a brand-new set of weapons forIron Banner, Trials of Osiris, and Nightfalls in the mid-season patch of Season of the Wish as a way to keep the player base interested while they wait for thefinal expansion, The Final Shape.
Iron Banner received one new weapon Tusk of the Boar, and one returning weapon Multimach. Tusk of the Boar is the first of its kind, a Strand Wave-frame Grenade Launcher. Being a Strand weapon, it brings a lot of utility to the player’s builds by existing in the Kinetic Slot. It also comes with two Origin Traits, one being exclusive to Iron Banner called Skulking Wolf, and the other being Field Tested, which grants increased Range, Handling, Stability, and Reload Speed when you defeat or damage targets.
How to Obtain Tusk of the Boar
Tusk of the Boar is an Iron Banner weapon and hence drops only when Iron Banner is around. The first drop of this weapon is pure RNG, it may require a single match for you to get it or it may take you numerous Iron Banner matches.
Once Tusk of the Boar drops for you, you can then turn in your Iron Banner engrams to get a guaranteed weapon. Focusing requires you glimmer and a single Iron Banner engram. Engram can be obtained by completingIron Banner matches.
Major Right Column Perks
The Strand God Roll
Tusk of the Boar being aStrand weapon synergizesextremely well with the Strand subclass. If you want a weapon that helps out your Strand build by applying further Strand verbs, then this weapon can greatly help.
For any roll of the Tusk of the Boar, it is important to note that for the Barrel option, you wantQuick LaunchorHard Launch, which greatly boosts your Velocity. For the magazine, you wantHigh-Velocity Rounds, and for masterwork, you may go with either Reload or Velocity.
In the left column, we have Slice as the Strand perk option. After activating your class ability, when you damage the next opponent with Tusk of the Boar it will Sever the target, meaning they will deal less damage to you, which is great for survivability.
In the right column, Hatchling, as the name suggests, will spawn Threadlings that will seek out and damage opponents if you get multiple kills with Tusk of the Boar. Slice and Hatchling is the ultimate Strand combination worthy of your Strand builds.
Reload
PvE God Roll
Other than the obvious Strand synergy that is present, Tusk of the Boar can also roll with great destructive perks. This time we will also go withQuick Launch,High-Velocity Rounds, and a Reload Speed masterwork.
In the left column, we have excellent perk options. Slideways are great for automatically reloading your weapon by just sliding, but it is held back due to the intrinsic cooldown between slides. This leaves us the option of Envious Assassin, which can overflow the magazine to 3, allowing us to fire consecutive Wave-frame Grenade Launcher shots.
In the right column, the perks that provide a damage boost are not required, as the main role of Wave-frame Grenade Launchers is to clear enemies and not DPS. This leaves Chain Reaction as the best perk option, each kill you get while you have Chain Reaction will cause elemental explosions which can trigger additional kills and explosions.
Deconstruct should also be mentioned here; if you hit three or more enemies with a single shot of Tusk of the Boar, it will automatically reload your weapon and not from reserves. This is a unique interaction that deserves your attention.
