WhenDestinywas first debuted at E3 2013, the excitement was through the roof as Bungie, the developer behind theHalofranchise, was venturing into a new foray and bringing its penchant for space operas outside of Xbox consoles for the first time. One fan was seemingly on a nostalgia trip and noticed something that Guardians don’t have in-game to this day and posted it in theDestiny 2Reddit forum

The fan took a clip from theDestinygameplay and character class debut at E3 2013 during Sony’s Press Conference where they are just outside the walls of Old Russia. Suddenly, another Guardian ship swoops in, transmats in a friendly Guardian, and swoops out just as quickly. That instant drop-in feature never made it into the final game orDestiny 2and fans are dreaming of what could have been.

The comment section under the clip is filled with players discussing how that feature is still missing from the game. To this day, the only sign that a Guardian is coming into a game is through a notification in the chatbox and their accompanying custom transmog effect showing up soon after. The spirit of that quick drop-off only occurs in cutscenes like at the beginning of theShadowkeepcampaign. Fans in the comments are playfully dreaming of the what-ifs of having the feature in the game. One commenter jokes about how the feature would have Guardians getting dropped off in the Vault of Glass raid that is deep underground on Venus.

Even that playable area outside of Old Russia has rarely been truly accessible. There were some exotic quest missions that took players back to this area for the Riskrunner and the Khvostov 7G-0X that was a tribute to the first gun players received when startingDestiny. Venturing any farther than the quest area resulted in instant death. Those missions have now beenvaulted along with otherDestiny 2contentfrom earlier seasons.

Speculating a bit, any number of reasons could be cause for not getting the feature in-game: with the vast amount of ships and transmog effects, the seemingly infinite combinations ofmods and cosmetics inDestiny, adding on another endless amount of areas Guardians can be dropped off, it easily can become a daunting task for what can be barely five seconds of animation.

Players are well aware by now that some ideas never make it to the final product due to any number of reasons. Though it may seem minute in comparison to all the technical wonders that the team atBungie has implementedin the years afterDestinyandDestiny 2, some ideas are still beholden to technical limitations.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
