In regards to indie title publishers, Devolver Digital is a name held in high regard, with many different games being backed by the publisher. This includes the multiplayer mayhemFall Guysto the incredibly insane FPS franchiseSerious Sam.Devolver Digital purchased the developers back in 2020, after the release ofSerious Sam 4, the prequel to 2011’sSerious Sam 3: BFE. The development team seems to be teasing a new entry in the franchise, evidenced by a new teaser video released by Devolver Digital.
Croteam’sSerious Sam 4was met with mixed reception, where many fans and critics praised the unique ideas and strengths of the game, such as its opening sequence filled with action and unique enemies. The cheesy story and protagonist were also high-points to a few fans as well. The main problems that many took umbrage with, however, were the downsized levels further in the game, as well as some technical shortcomings that also hampered the experience.

Despite this,Devolver Digitalseems confident in theSerious Samname, as seen with a teaser video released onto Twitter. It shows a couple of environments that will be a part of this upcoming game, such as an ocean that has buoys and seagulls lying in wait. The video also shows a frozen wasteland, with wrecked ships next to the dock, with plenty of ice and snow abound.
A voice over is heard throughout the teaser, where he is commenting on the cold, but is eager to get into action. Based on what has been shown, along with the frozenSerious Samlogo and emoji included in the Twitter post, this game is looking to be focused onwinter-themed levels. The post notes that this is brand-new game, teasing a formal announcement next week, where it will also be released this month. Fans on the Twitter post expressed their excitement at this upcoming game, many hoping this game will be a step up fromSerious Sam 4.
The last bit of content that fans received regardingSerious Sam 4was a Christmas-themed updateback in 2020. This similarly winter-themed event had players transported to a snowbound land, fighting off swarms of aliens while searching for presents that could contain loot. It also brought plenty of fixes that helped stablilize the game’s frame-rate and perfomance issues due to the action-heavy combat. Hopefully Croteam can use what it learned fromSerious Sam 4to make this upcoming game meet the fans' expectations.
