While some players of Blizzard’sDiablo 4are still struggling through their first playthrough of the dark and gloomy action RPG, two gamers have raised the bar for in-game accomplishments, becoming the first to clear a Tier 100 Nightmare Dungeon in Hardcore Mode. A badge of honor for the game’s most dedicated players, some players recently claimed thatDiablo 4’s Hardcore contest winners list is inaccurateand omits dozens of gamers who accomplished the feat.Released in early June to great acclaim,Diablo 4is the latest entry in Blizzard’s long-running action RPG series. Taking gamers’ feedback to heart following the mixed reception to 2012’sDiablo 3, Blizzard brought back the dark and gritty art style of the original games while retaining some of the third outing’s quality of life improvements. Like previous entries in the franchise, much of the game’s appeal for many players lies in the endgame content, withDiablo 4’s Nightmare Dungeonsrepresenting some of the title’s biggest challenges. Despite this, the Nightmare Dungeons have been criticized by some players for lacking in imagination and difficulty compared toDiablo 3’s Greater Rifts.RELATED:Diablo 4 Update 1.0.3 Buffs Nightmare Dungeons and MoreAs first reported by gaming site Wowhead,Diablo 4players AlAlon and Riise have become the first two gamers to defeat a Tier 100 Nightmare Dungeon in Hardcore Mode. AlAlon shared the momentous accomplishment on their Twitter account, providing a screenshot of the duo getting a popup alerting them of their new Grandmaster status as proof. Remaining gracious in their moment of triumph, AlAlon’s tweet also took the time to thank Blizzard andDiablocommunity lead Adam Fletcher“for creating this masterpiece.” Cutting things fairly close, the pair achieved the coveted Grandmaster status with less than two weeks to go inDiablo 4’s current season.

Gamers responding to the news on Twitter congratulated AlAlon and Riise on their accomplishment, with manyDiablo 4fans inquiring about what builds the two used. One curious commenter asked if reaching Grandmaster was actually rewarding or just felt the same asfarming XP inDiablo 4’s Nightmare Dungeonsusually does. Offering a surprisingly subdued response to the question, AlAlon stated that clearing the Nightmare Dungeon was “only about challenge” and not about any potential loot or larger feeling of satisfaction.

For players who are happy just to be able to make it through their encounter with X’Fal The Scarred Barron inDiablo 4’s first act intact, clearing a tier 100 Nightmare Dungeon in Hardcore Mode may seem like an insurmountable challenge. But, as AlAlon and Riise have shown, for someDiablo 4players accomplishing the seemingly impossible is where the game’s real fun lies.

Diablo 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
