A Game Of Wits Quest In Dragon’s Dogma 2
To trigger A Game of Wits quest inDragon’s Dogma 2, players mustgo to the Mountain Shrine and interact with the Sphinx. Take the road southeast of Misty Marshes to reach it, but be careful of the enemies lurking along the way. The Sphinx will be residing atop the Mountain Shrine, and it sets before you a simple task:solve 10 riddles to satisfaction.
The Riddle Of Eyes
“Our eyes are our allies,yet oft they betray, for eyes tell lies,so I advise,and thence do lead astray.Yet,how will your eyes advise you?Venture yonder door,and retrieve that which is of greatest value.”
To solve theRiddle ofEyesinDragon’s Dogma 2, players must take the newly unlocked door, next to the shrine andclaim theSealing Phialinside the Treasure Chest above the door’s frame.
Arisens will face goblins inside, but they can ignore raiding the whole dungeon, as the chest at the end of it will only contain a mereRotten Apple.
Once the Sealing Phial is in players’ possession, return to the Sphinx and give the item back. Completing the Riddle of Eyes will grant aWakestoneand theSealing Phial, which are in the Treasure Chest behind the Sphinx.
The Riddle Of Madness
“Love is as twin to madness,they say.They are bound fast,as night is to day.So bring forth your most beloved to me,that I might gauge the depth of your insanity.”
To successfully complete theRiddle of Madness, Arisens mustbring their love interestto the Sphinx’s platform. However, if players haven’t completed any of the romanceable characters, they can offer their MainPawns inDragon’s Dogma 2.
Presenting the Main Pawn simply requires grabbing them and dropping them on the platform, while the love interest will require players to:
Players can recollect the placed Portcrystal after completing the Riddle of Madness.
Successfully answering the Riddle of Madness will unseal a Treasure Chest that contains aPortcrystal.
The Riddle Of Wisdom
“The parents know the child,yet the reverse is far from true.The child knows not the parent: such is the parent’s due.So bring to me my“Parent,”that I might better learn.”
Hiring the SphinxMother or SphinxFather pawnswon’t worksince the Sphinx asked for the Parent specifically.
Solving theRiddle of Wisdomrequires players to hire theSphinx Parentpawnfrom beyond the rifts. To easily summon the pawn, check the nearby Riftstones or use a Grand Riftstone. Moreover, Arisens shouldn’t worry about the spent RC, since the Riddle of Wisdom’s Treasure Chest will grant them1200 RC.
The Riddle Of Conviction
“Life is an enigma–a lender of mortal debt.Yet lighter pack makes fleeter foot and challenge nimbly met.So grant to me what you most prize,and thence elude your ponderous demise.”
To solve theRiddle of ConvictioninDragon’s Dogma 2, players mustgive the Sphinx their most precious item. Even though the Sphinx states that it won’t return it, it will give the item back and reward players with thesame offered itemin the rewarded chest, soyou’ll get an extra of whatever item you give her.
Players can take advantage of this riddle andoffer a Portcrystal to gain a duplicateas it’s one of the rarest items in the game.
The Riddle Of Rumination
“It’s ever the first we keep fond in our breast, and ever the first that eclipses the rest. You know of the Seeker’s Tokens, I trust? Those keepsakes of a fondly remembered journey? Yet where was it that you found your first? Retrace your steps, if you’re able to–you might make a new discovery.”
The First Seeker’s Token should be located around Melvesince it is where Arisens begin their exploration journey. Players can take the time to check the Saurian’s nest northeast of Melve or the Harpys' nests around Melve, as they usually contain a Seeker’s Token.
TheRiddle of Ruminationcan only be solved by playersremembering the location of the first Seeker’s Token they collected. At the same location, aFinder’s Tokenwill be present. Collect it and deliver it back to the Sphinx to solve the Riddle of Rumination. The correct answer will reward players withthree Ferrystones.
This task is time-limited and must be completed beforeseven in-game dayspass.
After answering all the posed riddles successfully, the Sphinx will relocate to another location with the GoldenTreasure Chest inDragon’s Dogma 2. Before leaving, it tells Arisens the Riddle of Reunion.
The Riddle Of Reunion
“Though constant this world may seem, in truth, all is in flux. And so the time has come for me to fly. If you are not yet satisfied, seek me at my new abode. But for now, I bid you farewell, dogged adventurer.”
To solve theRiddle of Reunion, head to theFrontier Shrine, which is located southwest of the Checkpoint Rest Town. The road leading to the Shrine is packed with large enemies, so players should embark on this journey with a well-builtteam inDragon’s Dogma 2. Arriving at the Frontier Shrine will automatically solve the Riddle of Reunion and unlock the first Treasure Chest, which contains100,000 GoldinDragon’s Dogma 2.
The Riddle Of Recollection
“Now,questions beget questions,and I have one for you:How many riddles have you solved thus far?My memory fails me,you see.Remind me,and make it plain.Let yonder statues be your means. For every question aptly answered,bring one here before me.”
Place a statue for every answered questionaround or on the Sphinx’s platform to solve theRiddle of Recollection. A satisfactory answer will grant players theUnmaking Arrow, which is a very important factor in completing the A Game of Wits quest inDragon’s Dogma 2.
The Riddle Of Futility
“How easily the mind unravels!Some say it’s pain that does it best.Others darkness–but I say neither. Could you survive such despair?We shall see.Here I have an amphora destined for Ser Maruits in Batthal.Deliver it to him,but beware;it’s rather fragile.”
To avoid walking all the way to Batthalwith the amphora, players can bring Ser Maruits to the Sphinx location by grabbing him and using a Ferrystone inDragon’s Dogma 2.
To successfully answer theRiddle of Futility, players mustdeliver the amphora to Ser Maruits in Batthal. The feline is located in Bakbatthal Mural Byway.
Since the amphora is quite fragile, players can’t teleport with it nor face enemies while holding it. To safely arrive at Maruits’ location with an intact amphora, players should take the road west of the Frontier Shrine to arrive at Bakbatthal. The road will be packed with enemies, somake sure to place the amphora in a safe placebefore engaging in any combat.
Once the amphora is delivered, teleport back to the Sphinx’s location and deliver the news to acquire theEternal Bondring inDragon’s Dogma 2.
The Riddle Of Differentiation
“So vast is this world,and full of life;you are but one of many.Indeed,in the grand scheme,we are as distinct from one another as pebbles on a beach–yet we doso love to extol our differences.But are these differences so great?If you believe so,this next task should prove exceedingly simple.I seek this man.If men are so distinct,I’m sure you’ll find him in a trice.”
If players don’t have aBatthal Residence Permit, they have to journey from Bakbatthal to the gate’s location or acquire the permit from Ser Menella or Brant. To acquire the permit, follow the Nation of the Lambent Flame quest or theArisen’s Shadow quest inDragon’s Dogma 2.
To solve the Riddle of Differentiation:
Afterward, the Sphinx will compare Vergil to the created image and will open the Treasure Chest, which contains theWhimsical DaydreamweaponinDragon’s Dogma 2.
During this riddle, players should pay attention to not mix between Dante and Vergil, who almost look identical except for their hair type. Vergil has long curly hair, while Dante has short straight hair.
The Riddle Of Contest
“Though ours is a battle of wits, tests of mettle are more to your strength. Is that not so? Come try your arm–though he shall be your opponent, not I. However, I am not amused by a simple duel. Bear this ring into battle, that I might gauge your true strength.”
After triggering theRiddle of Contest, theRing of Derisionwill be automatically equipped, and a combat puppet will be summoned by the Sphinx. Players can either defeat the spawned fighter in the battle or throw him off the mountain edge to solve the Riddle of Contest and acquire theRing of Ambition.
The Ring of Derision gauges players' real strength, so make sure to remove it after answering the Riddle of Contest.
Answering all 10 riddles won’t grant players the Golden Treasure Chest reward. Instead, they mustact quickly as the Sphinx will attempt to relocate after all riddles are solved. To prevent it from escaping,attack the Sphinxafter claiming the Riddle of Contest Treasure Chest inDragon’s Dogma 2.
How To Beat The Sphinx In Dragon’s Dogma 2
Defeating the Sphinx inDragon’s Dogma 2can be done easily if playersshoot it with theUnmaking Arrow. The one-of-a-kind arrow will defeat any enemy in one shot and will automatically save afterward. Arisens will obtain the Unmaking Arrow after answering the Riddle of Recollection correctly, or they can buy it from a merchant.
The Sphinx primarily employs ranged attacks, so players should avoid staying in the same spot when it initiates an attack.
If players are up to the challenge, they can prepare a team and engage in a normal fight with the Sphinx alongside theirPawns inDragon’s Dogma 2. During the battle, Arisens shouldfocus on applying damage to its wingssince it is one of the Sphinx’s vulnerable spots.
However, switching to the Archer, Magick Archer, or Warfarer Vocations is essential because, after the battle, the Sphinx will attempt to flee and relocate, making ranged combat crucial for pursuing it. If players fail to apply damage to the winged beast, they will fail to open the Golden Treasure Chest.
Defeating the Sphinx will grant theKey of Sagacityand 10,000 Gold from the winged beast’s fallenbody inDragon’s Dogma 2. Inside the Chest, players will find anEternal Wakestone, which is a Wakestone that restores fallen characters in the vicinity of the holder to life.
