Techland’s zombie apocalypse action sequelDying Light 2remains on course for release in February 2022. Fans of the originalDying Lightare anxious to return to the setting’s open world, to explore and battle hordes of increasingly threatening zombies. In the meantime, some fans are taking the opportunity to return toDying Lightonce more. Techland appears to be encouraging this as well, as it’s now confirmed to be working on a next-gen patch forDying Light.

The announcement came with little fanfare. ADying Lightfan on Twitter asked the official account for the game if a patch could be released that would allow the game to run at 60fps on PlayStation 5. TheDying LightTwitter account responded, saying that anext-gen patch forDying Lightis currently in development, to the Twitter user’s surprise. While details regarding what upgrades Techland is making toDying Lightaren’t available, fans can probably assume improvements are being made to frames-per-second and resolution.

The originalDying Lightwas released over six years ago on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It could certainly use a layer of polish to get it upgraded for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, so it’s possible that Techland will provide an update more substantial than general improvements. However, ifTechland’s comfortable announcing the next-gen update on Twitter rather than with a bigger reveal, it’s more than likely to be something straightforward.

Techland released a Platinum Edition ofDying Lightin May, which collects all of the action game’s various DLC. That includes its most recent DLC,Hellraid, which Techland continues to support via updates. As such, there’s never been a better opportunity to revisitDying Light. The game has so much DLC now that it’d likely be a completely different experience for players who otherwise only tried the game at launch.

In addition to a next-gen patch being in development, Techland plans to launchDying Lighton a new platform soon.Dying Lightwill arrive on Nintendo Switchin less than a week, releasing October 19, and it’s also the Platinum Edition of the game, so Nintendo Switch players will have access to all of the game’s DLC.

There are still several questions left for Techland to answer regarding its plannedDying Lightnext-gen release. The most pressing of which is when it’ll be available. WithDying Light 2arriving in February 2022, Techland will hopefully deliver the new update beforehand. That leaves just three months, which is not too long for a patientDying Lightfan.

Dying Lightis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch release coming October 19.
