Released all the way back in February of this year,Elden Ringhas managed to hold on tightly to its initial player base, which is no small feat for a modern game. Now officially crownedGame of the Year at the Game Awards,Elden Ringbroke the gaming industry when it was first released, with critics and fans screaming its praises from every rooftop they could find. And rather than be content with its work on the game and leave it at that, FromSoftware has continued to updateElden Ring.

The most recentElden Ringupdate finally delivered something fans had been waiting for since day one, opening up the gigantic doorways of the Colosseums. Acting asa new PvP playground, the Colosseums allow players to meet, duke it out, and reap some unique rewards. While this Colosseum update has been a long time coming and it delivers exactly what fans wanted, FromSoftware could have gone just a little further and added a handful of new achievements or trophies to the game.

Elden Ring’s Colosseum Update Should Have Added New Achievements

While PvP has always had a significant presence inFromSoftware’sSoulsseriesand its successors, thisElden RingColosseum update is unlike anything fans have seen so far. Where previous FromSoft games let players join each other’s worlds to either assist in co-op or to wreak havoc as an invader,Elden Ring’s Colosseum update adds three PvP arenas, each providing its own unique set of PvP game modes.

In the Limgrave Colosseum, players can engage in two different PvP game modes. The first of these, United Combat, sees two teams of players face off against one another in a team deathmatch-like setting, where the team with the most kills wins. The second mode,Combat Ordeal, pits players against the rest of the lobby in a free-for-all match. The Royal Colesseum in Leyndell has another unique mode, Duel, where two players face off in a classic FromSoftware duel to the death. The Caelid Colosseum gives players access to all of these PvP game modes and also lets players use their Spirit Ashes to assist their team in battle.

While FromSoftware went above and beyond with this update, adding even more content to a game that already feels so complete, the lack of any new achievements or trophies does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity. Adding just a handful of PvP-based achievements would act as a great incentive for die-hardElden Ringplayers to get back into the game, and seek out that new Platinum.

WithElden Ringreleasing all the way back in February, it’s fair to say that a good portion of even its most diehard fans has stopped playing the game regularly.Elden Ringisn’t afree-to-play live-service title likeOverwatch 2orFortnite, so this steady decline in active players is completely natural. That being said, one of the easiest ways to get hardcoreElden Ringfans back playing the game is to add just a handful of new achievements alongside the update. For many players who have already platinumedElden Ring, this would be enough of an incentive to redownload the game and drop at least a few hours into the new PvP content in an attempt to keep that Platinum trophy, re-earning the bragging rights to say that they have all the trophies/achievements inElden Ring.

Elden Ringis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
