Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen revealed that the cast ofAvengers: Infinity Warhad no idea they were getting blipped until the day they shot the now-famous scene.
Marvel Studios is known for its intensely secretive production process. Over the years the studio has developed a reputation for taking great lengths to keep a tight lid on any leaks. The studio reportedly limited access to theAvengers: Infinity Warscript by keeping it stored on a single iPad that could only be accessed in one office that was guarded by security at all times. While some of the cast was aware of some important plot points (such asthe death of Tony Stark), Olsen and her co-stars were largely kept in the dark.

In a recent interview withVariety, Olsen spoke about her experiencesworking onAvengers: Infinity Warand its sequelAvengers: Endgame.“I didn’t know I got blipped away until we shot it. That was told to us that day. All of us went to the van where they had a bunch of equipment to show us pre-viz,” Olsen told Variety. “We were all just in this van, and they said, ‘This is what’s happening. You guys will disappear.’ And we’re like, ‘OK.’ It was shocking. I mean, we didn’t know. We thought the movie ended differently.”
That said, Olsen explained that she never really has a full understanding of the MCU films on account of Marvel Studios' secrecy. “I mean, those movies I really don’t know what’s going on,” Olsen explained. “I just get my pages, so I understand the part of the story I’m fulfilling. I get a story that is told to me from the Russos about what’s happening in the rest of the movie. And it isn’t in the script that everyone gets blipped.”
Olsen joined the MCU in 2015 when she starred as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch, inAvengers: Age of Ultron.She reprised her role in 2016’sCaptain America: Civil Warand on the Disney Plus MCU spinoff seriesWandaVision.More recently, Olsen wasfeatured alongside Benedict CumberbatchinDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,where she played the main antagonist.
The news that Olsen didn’t know her character’sfate in Avengers:Infinity Warmay come as a surprise to some fans, but the reality is that this kind of secrecy has become fairly commonplace for Marvel Studios projects.
