To simply callFortnitea popular game would be an understatement. Epic Games' online multiplayer battle royale became a massive worldwide phenomenon after its release in 2017, and though it now may not be quite as popular as it once was,Fortnitehas maintained a tight grip on the battle royale genre with a constant flurry of new updates, skins, and more regularly being added to the game.
While the game is iconic for many things such as its signature Battle Bus and llama loot piñatas, it has perhaps become even more widely known for its large array of wacky, creative, and involved emotes which allow players to express themselves in-game in a variety of ways. ManyFortniteemotes include dances, allowing players to pull off some humorous stunts, but it seems that every once in a while, Epic Games releases aFortniteemote that everyone can resonate with.

To finally say goodbye to the tedious year that has been 2020 andring in the new year inFortnite,a commemorative emote has been released in the in-game shop for the special occasion. The emote is appropriately titled “Out with the Old,” and can be purchased by all players now as it was released just yesterday.
DespiteFortniteexperiencing regular emote-related lawsuitswhen it comes to the inspiration it takes for the expressions, the game continues to get creative with them. This new commemorative emote will allow players' in-game characters to express fatigue over this year by comically popping a balloon in the shape of “2020,” and then blowing up a new one in the shape of “2021.” The emote features a snippet of “Auld Lang Syne,” a traditional folk song of Scots-language origin often associated with bringing in the new year. The “Out with the Old” emote is of the Uncommon rarity and can be purchased fromFortnite’s in-game shop for just 200 V-Bucks.
The celebratory emote also carries the pun-infused description, “may your new year be a blowout.” And despite2020 being quite and exciting year forFortnite, players of the battle royale game have expressed the relatability of this emote, such asFortniteYouTuber VALtheVAL who exclaimed, “honestly, same, that’s exactly how I feel about 2020!”
Although 2020 has certainly had more downs than it has had ups, this emote perfectly encapsulates the hope that comes with the fresh start of a new year. As forFortnite, it seems the game hassome new features in storefor the new year which fans can certainly look forward to.
