Biomutantis the new creative endeavor from developer Experiment 101 and publisher THQ Nordic, and it is about to release on May the 25, 2021. The game is not completely new to eager fans, as its first debut was back in August of 2017 when it was first announced. This game is a mix of several popular genres, andits combat system is one of the most eye-catchingones seen this year.
Biomutantis an open-world RPG with a lot of interesting and unique features, along with plenty of inspiration from other successful games open-world games. An example of this is itsKung Fu Panda-like martial arts combat, with a splash ofDevil May Cryfor its gunplay and swords, with the addition of mutations for more special attacks. The game is also quite familiar for those who have playedThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and most likely has drawn inspiration from other games likeMonsterHunter,Fallout,Dungeons andDragons, and more.

Things To Know Before Biomutant’s Release
Character customization is present inBiomutant, and it is quite an important aspect. Not only does it define the players' characters aesthetically, but it provides them with six attributes that influence several aspects of the gameplay. As an RPG,Biomutantalso includes several classes to choose from when creating a new character. So far, only a few of them are known and details have yet to be disclosed, but there are the Commando (a class based on guns), the Psyfreak (who uses magic, or something of the sort), and the pre-order-exclusive class that is the Mercenary.
The setting is that of a post-apocalyptic world where humans are extinct and animals have grown sentient. The Tree of Life has been polluted with corruption, and the main character’s journey (told by a narrator) will be a quest to restore the Tree to its previous status, or to ally with those seeking to destroy it. This is achieved by mending bridges between the six main tribes, or by bringing them down in a fight. Allying with some tribes may unlock specific quests or goals to help the tribe with, whatever the tribe’s main intention is.
Weather, mutations, and radiation, all impact the gameplay to a certain extent, so colder weather may call for warmer clothes, while mutations may change the characters' appearance and attributes. Exploration and jumping puzzles are also a big part ofBiomutant, with players being able to uncover many secrets within the game’s vibrant world, which is reportedly as large asGrand Theft Auto 4’s world. This can be achieved with the help of special mutations or gadgets, too, like bionic limbs, mechanical wings, and the like.

Biomutantalso features several NPCs that players will be able to form relationships with, allowing them to have companions around while playing.Karma points are also a thing, and they influence the characters, the NPCs around them, and the story up to a certain extent. This may also influence the choices players can make, and how impactful they are. An example of this are the big,Monster-Hunter-like world leaders found when following the roots of the Tree of Life, which can be either spared or killed, and the choice will bear consequences.
Speaking of world leaders, some of them are only accessible via vehicles. These steampunk machines include a submarine, a water ski, a mech, a balloon, and more.Biomutantalso has mounts, which can probably affect the players' ability to travel to specific places based on the mount’s resistance or speed. The game also offers the ability to craft weapons and to improve the players' vehicles, with the former being achieved by combining weapon parts found throughout the game to obtain a fully customized tool of destruction.
Lastly,Biomutantwouldn’t be called the way it is if mutations weren’t a big part of the game. Mutations can be unlocked when first creating a character or when finding bio-contamination pools in order to obtain different upgrades and a second chance at revisiting the character’s aesthetics. There are yet not many other details, apart from the game coming in aStandard Edition, a Collector’s Edition, and the Atomic Editionto provide more goodies.
