Nihon Falcom has been pumping out major JRPGs for almost 40 years, with the company preparing to celebrate its anniversary in the coming weeks. To celebrate its 40th anniversary,Falcom is celebrating its 40th anniversarywith a livestream event through Japanese gaming news outlet Dengeki Online. The stream will reveal new information on the next title in theThe Legend of Heroesseries.
While the developer’s games have never received mainstream success in western countries, Nihon Falcom’s work has been supported by a dedicated cult following. While the studio started out developing games for Japanese PC brands, much of its work during the 2000s was focused on PC and handhelds such as the PSP and PlayStation Vita. Recently, the studio has made a shift back to working on console titles with titles such asThe Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold SteelandYs 8: Lacrimosa of Dana.

The Falcom 40th anniversary stream will air onYouTubeMarch 9 at 8:00 p.m. JST, and the stream will feature a retrospective for the developer’s history hosted by Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo and Dengeki Online staff. The stream will also reveal new information onThe Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki, the next title in the long-running JRPG series.
The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki(Trails in the Dark) was announced in December 2020, four months after the Japanese release ofThe Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki(Trails of the Beginning), which has not yet released in the west. Little is known about the upcoming game outside of the protagonists' designs.
NIS America, the publisher responsible for localizing Falcom’s titles, is set to appear at New Game Plus Expo on March 4, likely to reveal more information regardingThe Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4for Nintendo Switch. However, it is possible that it might share information on titles not yet announced for localization.
The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kisekiwill release in Japan in 2021.
