Summary

AFallout 76player has modeled a base camp after one of the many glamorous pink homes owned by Mattel’s famous Barbie doll over the years. Combine this withthe recent Xbox Barbie crossover, and it seems hype for the Greta Gerwig-directed film has crossed over into the gaming community.

Fallout 76garnered a mixed reception upon release, but it still warrants some respect for the new features it brought to the series, such as online multiplayer (making it Bethesda’s first ever game to have such a feature), an overworld even larger than that ofFallout 4, the usage of nuclear weapons to significantly alter the map, as well asthe ability for players to design their own bases. The latter opens up a ton of room for more creative-minded players to show off their talents and bring notes of their own style into the apocalyptic aesthetic of the game, and one of those players did just that as an homage to the Margot Robbie-led movie.

On the officialFallout 76subreddit, user queenofpsychos linked to an Imgur gallery of screenshots showcasing the new base they built. Unsurprisingly decked out in mostly varying shades of pink, it is described as the home that Barbie would own if she had to reside in the world ofFallout 76. A lot of work was clearly put into the home, both inside and out, and the overall design is quite detailed and modern. Across its two stories are a living room flowing into a kitchenette, a single bedroom and bathroom, and even a small garden and some lawn chairs off to the side.

Several in the comments appeared impressed by the user’s work, but many also took the time to tell joking stories about what brutal and out-of-character acts Barbie would pull off if she existed in-game. One user even assumed that her presence was responsible for the amount of pink foundinFallout 76’s Crater. There were also a notable amount of people (including the OP) stating that they should also build some base camps as an homage to Christopher Nolan’sOppenheimer, a movie that many have pointed out will have to compete withBarbieon the same opening weekend.

It’s always nice to see game developers include opportunities to be creative in their products, even in games that aren’t entirely rooted in player ingenuity. Adding in custom base camps was a genius idea in this regard, especially with a subsequent update that addedthe ability to build underground bases inFallout 76. It should be interesting to see what clever and creative designs players come up with using these features in the future, movie tributes or otherwise.

Fallout 76is available to play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
