Jun 14, 2025 marks the 20th anniversary ofFinal Fantasy 10, the franchise’s debut on PS2 and a game considered by many to be one of the bestFinal Fantasytitles ever made. Many fans are celebratingFinal Fantasy 10’s anniversary through art and cosplay, including harumiminiru and bruccellati. The duo recently took to Reddit to show off their cosplay of popularFinal Fantasy 10characters Yuna and Rikku, based on how the characters appeared inFinal Fantasy 10-2.
Final Fantasy 10-2is a direct sequel toFinal Fantasy 10, with the focus put onFF10’s female characters. The firstFinal Fantasygame with an all-female cast of playable characters,Final Fantasy 10-2sees Rikku, Yuna, and new character Paine search forlostFinal Fantasy 10protagonist Tidus. It earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release and was generally a big hit with critics and fans alike. So it’s no surprise to see fans use it as inspiration for theirFinal Fantasy 10cosplays.

Final Fantasy 10-2seems like an especially strong choice for the cosplay crowd as the game has a wide variety of outfits for the characters to obtain and equip. Its leveling system even includes something called the “Garment Grid” and “dress spheres,” in case anyone wasn’t convinced thatFinal Fantasy 10-2is big on fashion.
Final Fantasy 10-2may not be the end of theFinal Fantasy 10story, however. Even though the game released all the way back in 2003, it seems Square Enix has interest in making a sequel. Apparently, aFinal Fantasy 10-3story outlineexists, and the game itself might get made sometime after Square Enix has finished its work on theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeproject. It will likely take years before Square Enix finishes upFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeand its sequels, though, soFF10fans likely have a huge wait ahead of them.
Even though there hasn’t been a newFinal Fantasy 10game since 2003 and the original game is 20 years old at this point,FF10’s popularity persists. Fans have been drawn toFinal Fantasy 10’s cast of characters, with the subjects of this particular cosplay, Rikku and Yuna, standing out as two of the most popular characters from the game.
Final Fantasy 10fan projects will likely continue between now andFinal Fantasy 10-3’s release (assuming it gets off the ground at all, that is). And that’s just a testament to how much fans enjoy both the original game and its sequel. In the meantime, those who want to revisitFinal Fantasy 10and10-2have a convenient way of doing so, asFinal Fantasy 10and10-2are available in an HD remaster collection(itself currently available to play on Xbox Game Pass).
