Summary

Final Fantasy 14players who experienced payment issues with Visa debit cards for the last few weeks are in luck, as Square Enix confirmed that a fix for the ongoing issues is in development. However,Final Fantasy 14players will have to wait a little longer to use Visa debit cards, as the fix is targeted to be released in July 2024.

Following a payment processor change in late April 2024,Final Fantasy 14players reported issueswith Visa credit and debit cards, Discover credit cards, and MasterCard credit cards issued by CapitalOne. As a result, players with affected cards could not complete any purchases on the Online Store and the MogStation, including subscriptions. Days after the initial reports, Square Enix said it was looking into a solution for affected users. However, the company recommended that players use other methods such as Amazon Pay and PayPal to purchase the Crysta currency. Crysta can then be used on theFF14Online Store and MogStation for subscriptions and other goods.

Nearly a month after the payment issues started, impactedFinal Fantasy 14players will soon have a fix.According to the Lodestone, Square Enix announced that it will implement some adjustments to the new payment processor which should enable Visa debit cards as a payment option in North America. However, the fix for these issues will not be an immediate one, as it is planned to launch sometime in July 2024, either during or afterthe launch of theDawntrailexpansion. Square Enix reiterated that Crysta, Amazon Pay, PayPal, and game time cards from various retailers may still be used to pay for subscriptions and digital goods. Square Enix apologized for the continued problems.

Final Fantasy 14 Gives Follow-Up On Visa Debit Card Issues

Before the fix for Visa debit cards can be implemented,Final Fantasy 14will undergo another payment change. Starting June 25,sales tax will be collectedfor all purchases made on the MogStation andFF14Online Store. This will follow similar tax collection processes used on platforms such as Steam. However, the addition of sales tax will only apply toFinal Fantasy 14players in US states that do collect it. Ergo, players who live in states that either do not collect sales tax or have tax exemptions for digital goods will see no changes.

WithDawntrailgoing live on July 2, it remains to be seen how the Visa debit card issues will impact its launch. With any luck,Final Fantasy 14should have a timely fix ready to go during the expansion’s release window.
