The GameCube is Next in Line

Nintendo seems to be adding games from its most popular consoles in order of release. The service started with iconic NES games likeSuper Mario Bros.andMetroid. Soon after, it continued to sweeten the deal by adding N64 games likeMario Kart 64andStar Fox 64with its new Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. While many thought the GameCube was next in line, Nintendo threw a wrench in the system when itchose to add Sega Genesis gameslikeSonic the Hedgehog 2instead.

Now, it seems Nintendo is getting back on track with the addition of Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games. These are the first handheld titles getting added to Nintendo Switch Online, and that has made some players excited aboutthe potential of Nintendo DS titlesin the future. While there is a strong possibility that DS is in the cards, the next likeliest candidate is GameCube. The GameCube Library Would Be Perfect For Switch

The GameCube is fondly remembered by the Nintendo community, and it is easy to see why.The GameCube controlleris often considered the best Nintendo controller forSuper Smash Bros, but the real highlight of the console was its library of great titles. The console was the birthplace of acclaimed franchises likePikminandAnimal Crossing, and it was the home of popular games likeSuper Smash Bros. MeleeandSuper Mario Sunshine. The GameCube had a very impressive lineup during its tenure, and most of its games would make perfect additions to the Nintendo Switch Online catalog.

The potential GameCube games are not limited to first-party titles either, as the console had very strong third-party support too. Studios like Activision, Ubisoft, THQ, and Konami were all creating games for the console even after the Wii had hit store shelves. Sega was also a major player on the console after it pulled out of the hardware market, and it releasedpopular games likeSuper Monkey BallandSonic Adventurefor the system. Nintendo and Sega continue to have a good working relationship with the addition of Sega Genesis games to Nintendo Switch Online, and many of Sega’s GameCube games would be worthy additions to the Switch catalog.
