Summary
Genshin Impacthas no shortage of groups to learn about across Teyvat; one of the most recent to be introduced to players is Fontaine’s “Marechausee Phantom.” Most members of this organization that players run into will beGenshin Impact’s Melusines, the tiny fantastical race with much better senses than humans. Many times throughout quests, it’s said that they “see things humans cannot.” So, when given a job opportunity like detective work in the Marechaussee Phantom, there isn’t much else that could be better suited to their abilities.
The Marechaussee Phantom has ties to some other law enforcement organizations that are run in Fontaine. Sitting at the top of it all, however, isGenshin Impact’s Neuvillette, who leads the Marechaussee Phantom in addition to his other important roles as Iudex and judge. Neuvillette is shown to be rather worried about each and every single Melusine due to a past conflict that ended in the suicide of a Melusine named Carole.
The Past of Genshin Impact’s Marechaussee Phantoms
A History of Fontaine’s Protective Services
To understand the Marechaussee Phantoms, it may help to go back to when they were first established. Shortly after the cataclysm, a few key figures had gone missing–the director and vice director of theNarzissenkreuz Institute. For those who were left behind, they were offered a position that could help them protect Fontaine. The Marechaussee Phantoms, however, are not the only form of legal protection in Fontaine. The numerous organizations that work as a means of protection are associated with the Maison Gardiennage:
Most of these organizations are mostly human, save for the Marechaussee Phantoms. All groups havethe Iudex, Monsieur Neuvillette, at the head of them, as he is the overall authority when it comes to the laws of the land. The Melusines, Phantom or not, all look up to him as a sort of father figure. He may not view them as children, but he cares deeply for each one of them. This is why he’d given them the chance to join law enforcement the way he did. He wanted to give them a chance to assimilate into human society since he was still fresh, having just been made Iudex not too long before making Melusines a part of the Marechaussee Phantoms. The Melusines didn’t have anywhere else to go, after all.
But even then, humans were not welcoming initially. It took five years for any progress to really be made, as this was when Carole – the Melusine who committed suicide after being framed for a crime – and her coworker Vautrin won peace awards. This wasn’t real progress, as many humans still held their biases and were prejudiced against other races. It’s no wonder that Neuvillette is so protective of these people; they weren’t seen as such, and it had become hard for them to just come intohuman society in Fontaine. He knows the struggle too, as he had his own accusations to bear and deal with.
Ultimately, he had the Melusines join the force and attempt to get along with humans that way. It worked eventually, as in the modern society, the people of Fontaine couldn’t believe that someone would have the nerve to threaten a Melusine. After all, all they do is help people out and do what’s right. It’s unfair and unjust to attack someone like that, and though people couldn’t see it when the Melusines were first joining the Phantom andGenshin Impact’s Fontaineas a whole, they see it now.
