A Family’s Escape is one of the more intriguing questlines inGhost of Tsushima, as, unlikeregular side quests, there are no quest markers to guide Jin to his objective and no clear indications of where he needs to go. In fact, there isn’t even a Journal entry for this quest. It is more like an easter egg than a proper side quest.
All players have to go off of are a series of vague letters, each one pointing toward the next. The quest revolves around finding these letters and uncovering the fate of Toku’s family in the process.

What Happened to Toku’s Family in Ghost of Tsushima
While the game doesn’t tell you who the people in the campsite are, taking the clues into account makes it very likely these are Toku and the family. It can be surmised that Toku’s family didn’t make it onto the boat that was supposed to arrive at the waterfall’s edge, and that they perished while waiting for it to arrive, likely as a result of a Mongol or Bandit attack. Toku, having found her family’s dead bodies, flung herself over the edge of the cliff to her death.
