Despite a number of delays related to thefluctuating release date ofThe Last of Us 2,Ghost of Tsushimafinally looks to be making its grand debut on the PlayStation 4 in just a few weeks. Sucker Punch’s highly-anticipated samurai game looks to be the last major hurrah of the PlayStation 4 era, boasting stunning visuals, a wholly unique setting, and tons of brutal combat.
In the lead up to the release, fans have seen a lot of promotion for the majorly hyped historical epic, including a recent State of Play chock full of new gameplay, intense combat, and a deeper glimpse at the title’s striking open world. However, the game’s newest trailer shows off a far more cinematic look at the upcoming release, with the promotional clip putting a lot of emphasis onGhost of Tsushima’sdark themes and tone.

The footage begins with protagonist Jin Sakai washing up on a beach, clearly suffering from severe wounds after a brutal battle during the Mongol invasion. Rising up, he begins to run, as the footage cuts to the samurai warrior journeying through several of the luscious environments shown during the title’srecent gameplay reveal. This is all set before the backdrop of a monologue about the road to becoming a samurai, with Jin coming face to face with Mongol soldiers as he reflects upon his teachings about honor, combat, and commitment. Eventually, the changing scenes become much darker, with the protagonist slicing his way through myriads of soldiers as he traverses rain-drenched forests and fiery battlefields.
Jin is then warned that “a storm is coming” by a mysterious mentor figure, before being awoken by an ally amidst a brutal conflict. He gets to his feet, dons his mask, and prepares to wage war. While the ad mostly sticks to a lot of the information and iconography fans have already seen in previousGhost of Tsushimatrailers and gameplay, it does seem to reinforce that this is going to an epic experience with some dark themes. After all,the Mongol invasion is renown as a grisly, unforgiving conflict, so it’s fitting to see that the game won’t be shying away from the historical event’s harrowing legacy.
Ghost of Tsushimawill be in the hands of fans in just a few week’s time, closing out the PlayStation 4’s list of major exclusives. It goes without saying that the company has published some of the biggest and best games of the generation, withGod of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Death Stranding,andThe Last of Us 2all making for one of the best exclusive line-ups ever launched on a console.
Ghost of Tsushimawill be available on June 17, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
