Eventually, players ofGotham Knightswill have to face off with Clayface at the Gotham Dam in a fight to prevent him from flooding the city. This brutal battle is split into three phases including a very tricky vehicle segment, so players must pay close attention and learn how to spot Clayface’s attacks to overcome this malleable menace.
The Clayface Case File is one of several supervillain case files players can encounter duringGotham Knights, alongside the Harley Quinn and Mr Freeze case files and the main story case file. It has players uncovering Clayface, having survived his death by spinning turbine prior to the events of the game, and attempting to recapture him.

Clayface Phase 1
Once players enter the fight with Clayfacethey’ll likely have to immediately dodge left or right, as he tends to open with his two-fisted ground slam. This has him raising both arms and then slamming them down directing in front of him, stretching and enlarging them to hit a massive line in front of him. Luckily this also leaves him open to attack from every direction except directly in front of him, assuming players are able to dodge it.
When he moves his hand in front of him and clenches his fist, he’s preparing to do a grab, sweeping the area directly in front of him and grabbing any character he hits, before throwing them back and dealing damage. This can be avoided by backing away, which is also a good opportunity to pepper him with some ranged attacks to continue dealing damage.
Clayface can also perform a sweeping attack with his left hand, swinging it across the floor in front of him to deal damage and knock back players. Though this can also be avoided by dodging backward like with the grab attack, players close to Clayface should instead try to dodge to the left and get behind him to deal some damage with melee attacks while he’s performing the sweep, as it can’t hit behind him and has enough recovery time afterward to allow players to counterattack.
Players using Nightwing for this fight can dodge nearly any of Clayface’s attacks by using his pounce momentum ability with the bounce upgrade to get airborne since most of his attacks sweep along the ground.
Clayface Phase 2
After Clayface loses 1/3 of his health he’ll collide with a pipe and throw it, breaking the floor and sending both the player and himself plummeting into the depths of the dam and the sewers. Despite initially seeming to melt into the water, Clayface quickly turns this to his advantage and becomes a living tidal wave, turning this into an escape sequence.
With the Batcycle to work with and Clayface’s tentacles bursting outfrom all angles, players will need to keep their eyes on the road and make good use of the Batcycle’s speed and turning capabilities to escape through the sewer tunnels and find a way to make Clayface a bit more solid. Clayface’s tentacles can seem difficult to predict, but the AR Vision will actually show them through the walls before they burst out. Other than that players will simply have to drive like crazy and try not to get hit too much since slowing down means instant death at the hands of the wave.
Eventually, players will reach the Smelting Factory and phase 3 can begin.

Clayface Phase 3
With Clayface less liquefied but just as dangerous, it’s time for phase 3. He tends to open with his leaping ground pound, hopping towards the player, and bringing all four fists down on the ground. Just dodge away from him when he does this and then go in for a quick attack while he stands back up.
He can also do a four-hit combo where he smashes his fists into the ground one by one, breaking them as he does so. Dodging out of the way of these fists will provide an opening once all four fists are broken as he needs a moment to replenish them. He can also still perform his grab move from phase 1 during this stage of the fight, so players should keep that in mind and remember how to dodge it. The same goes for his overhead ground pound and left-handed sweep.
When only 1/3 of his health bar is remaining, Clayface will gain a mace hand and lose the extra two arms during a cutscene. His leaping ground pound is now a three-hit combo, so players should wait for it to be finished before going in for an attack as he regenerates his hand. When he has a hammer hand and a spiked hand he can perform a three-hit ground pound combo, which will revert his hands to the mace hand and normal hand afterward.
Clayface can also perform a pair of punches that cause chunks of his hands to fall to the ground after each punch, dealing damage to the player both with the initial punch and if they get hit by the falling rock. Keep chipping away at him, dodging behind him where possible, and eventually, Clayface will go down.
