Back in 2018, footage from an unannounced, in-development RPG, centered around theHarry Potterfranchise was leaked, much to the excitement of longtime fans of the franchise. Now, two years later, the project still has yet to be officially confirmed in any capacity and, although there have been some leaks about the game, fans have been speculating that it’s possible the game was canceled. Despite the radio-silence, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case, as Bloomberg reporter and notable industry insider Jason Schreier has confirmed over Twitter that theHarry Pottergameis still in active development.

Schreier confirmed the news after the game failed to appear at Xbox’s and PlayStation’s next-gen game reveal conferences. Many fans assumed that the game would appear at one of those conferences, given it was the first time players were able to see footage/gameplay from true next-gen titles.

Beyond the confirmation that the game is still in active development, however, Schreier didn’t give many more details about in the project, except for the fact that he has no idea when it’ll actually be announced. Back in March, when the ESA announced that E3 2020 would be canceled, Schreier revealed that, if the convention had gone forward, it would have featured the firstWarner Bros. Interactive press conference. At the conference, the publisher was set to unveil details about theBatmanandHarry Potterfranchises, alongside Rocksteady’s next game, so it’s not out of the question for fans to assume that the reveal of the RPG would be coming sometime this summer.

Specific details about the game are scarce. According to the leaked footage, it will be played through a third-person perspective and will allow players to customize their characters, fight enemies, and cast spells. A recent unverifiedReddit leakstated that the game, which is apparently titledHogwarts: A Dark Legacy, is set to take place sometime after the Harry Potter novels and that multiple characters from the franchise will appear in the game.

After two years of secrecy, it’s time for this game to be revealed. As Schreier points out in his tweet, it would be tough to reveal the game right now, givenJ.K Rowling’s recent gross transphobic statements, but given the fact that the fans have been wondering about the title for years now and it was more than likely going to be revealed at E3, WB should just bite the bullet and reveal the game.

No platforms have been confirmed for the unannouncedHarry PotterRPG, however, depending on when it’s released, the game could hit both current-gen and next-gen consoles.
