The Xbox Game Studios trivia game1 vs. 100has a cult following. The game, which first launched in 2009, was shut down by mid-2010 after just two seasons. A decade later, many Xbox fans still recall1 vs. 100fondly, or at the very least have latched onto nostalgia online. It appears that persistence could be paying off, as Xbox boss Phil Spencer hinted in a recent interview that1 vs. 100could be returning.
Spencer did not mention the name1 vs. 100, and he hasn’t made any announcements that it or any other trivia game is being developed, either. What Spencer has done is heavily insinuate the existence of a new trivia game, saying, “Maybe we should even be building our own trivia game, like from our past.” Then, later, he said “maybe that could happen.” Suffice to say, it’s about as close to the announcement as Spencer could get without actually announcing a newtrivia game.

The comment from Spencer came duringXbox’s recent digital FanFest event, which was supposed to feature an interactive trivia experience. Unfortunately, the trivia part of the event did not go smoothly due to technical complications. That’s what led Spencer to discussing the topic, which he started by saying that he’s supportive of the Xbox team trying new things, and that they often become “good learning experiences.”
Some may question whetherSpenceris talking about1 vs. 100as opposed to some other trivia game. which is a fair point because the connection to1 vs. 100is very loose. It’s when Spencer says a trivia game “like from our past” that conjures up the idea of1 vs. 100’s return. There are few other trivia experiences that Xbox fans think of as often, so it’s difficult to imagine Spencer is talking about anything else.
That said, there’s a reason why1 vs. 100hasn’t been brought back by Xbox developers in the decade since it was shut down. Perhaps it’s because there’s little appeal in trivia games for wider audiences, or perhaps it’s due to the limitations of requiring anXbox Live Gold subscriptionto access free-to-play games. Maybe with the launch of the Xbox Series X, something has changed.
For now, there are no game announcements. A new Xbox trivia game, whether it’s anew1 vs. 100or something else, has not been officially confirmed, but for the first time in a long time1 vs. 100fans may have some renewed hope to hold onto.
1 vs. 100is an Xbox 360 game that is no longer available.
