Hellsinghas a tricky problem. The protagonists of this anime are too good at what they do. From Integra Hellsing herself to vampire policewoman Seras Victoria to the mighty Alucard (or Dracula), the operatives of the Hellsing Organization keep undead threats away with unrivaled efficiency. Therefore, it’s tough to think of any foes to challenge them.
That’s whyHellsing Ultimatehas the Millennium Organization. This is basically an army of Nazis who have since become vampires. They now wreak havoc on the heroes in a demented quest for a New Reich. Even without that common goal keeping them together, however, Millennium’s members are all formidable opponents in their own right.
7The Major
The great irony is that the leader of Millennium is the weakest member. The Major may have survived since WWII with his youth intact, but he doesn’t possess any physical power to speak of. Aside from immortality, he’s basically a frail and pudgy human. For the heroes, killing him is as simple as taking out the trash. That’s why he lets others do his dirty work.
The Major is the brains of the operation. He concocts the maniacal scheme, which requires immense vision and attention to detail. That’s what makes him dangerous. In comparison, his lack of strength is negligible.
6Valentine Brothers
These guysexcel at utter chaos, which is their greatest factor. The Valentine brothers boast the superhuman strength, resilience, and reflexes of a vampire. They use these qualities to plow through the trained troops of the Hellsing Organization. On top of all that, they enjoy it. These guys have an undeniable gift for destruction, but that’s also their most crippling weakness.
Their emphasis on chaos means that the Valentines have virtually no finesse. Vampiric traits are null and void to those without the wit to wield them. Case in point, Seras Victoria is able to subdue Jan with a standard police move. They can’t even compensate for this oversight with raw power, as Alucard easily overcomes Luke in this area. These bumbling brothers are soulless grunts meant to thin the human herd. Anything more is beyond them.
5Rip Van Winkle
A cut above those grunt troops is Rip Van Winkle. Her vampiric abilities are greater than those of the Valentines, letting her dispatch both humans and fellow undead with little issue. As effective as she is in close combat, though, her forte is gunplay.
Winklewields long-range weapons to rain death on enemies. She can line up precise shots to hit virtually any target, moving or stationary. This is apparent as she takes down a squad of fighter jets. Many of these bullets are magical. As such, she can inflict tremendous pain on supernatural beings and prevent them from getting anywhere near her. She even gets in a few shots on Alucard. Like the Valentines, though, she doesn’t have the physical prowess to match. Because of that, the fight is over once he gets close. This is presumably how it would go with other opponents as well.
4Tubalcain Alhambra
This is a tricky comparison. Since Tubalcain Alhambra and Rip Van Winkle are the same rank, one would assume they possess a similar level of strength. That said, Alhambra has more agility and dexterity than most vampires. Not only do these perks make him tricky to nail down, but they aid in his main gimmick.
Alhambra’s weapon of choice isa deck of playing cards. He wields these with deadly accuracy from any distance. It helps that he can manipulate them in midair. When they hit, they cut through virtually anything. Moreover, they hamper the healing factor typical in vampires. Tubalcain’s penchant for cardsputs Gambit to shame. Suffice it to say, he plays for keeps.
3Zorin Blitz
Another villain who thins the herd, Zorin Blitz is a formidable opponent on the physical side. She channels her immense strength and speed into her scythe, slicing countless soldiers to ribbons. For those out of her reach, she simply throws it like a shuriken or boomerang. This trick is only the opening act, though.
Zorin’s true power lies in her mental ability. With the mystical eye on her hand, she traps her enemies in illusions. These are often traumatic memories or deep-seated fears. The closer she is, the more potent they become. This ability lets her cripple her rivals without laying a finger on them.
2Schrödinger
Schrödinger is one of the Major’s closest operatives. He never gets in a direct fight, so his combat skills are hard to gauge. He simply appears in the most unexpected places andnever seems worried about anything. However, there’s more to this kid than meets the eye.
His power is abstract. It ties his belief into his state of being. This potentially makes him the mightiest of all vampires. The series explains that he could sustain fatal injuries and recover. All he must do is believe he’s alive. Again, though, fans never see a demonstration. In addition, the heroes don’t treat him as a serious threat, so it’s hard for the audience to do so.
1Walter
A secret Millennium operative, Walter poses as a high-ranking member of the Hellsing Organization. He’s a seasoned vampire and possesses abilities far beyond his aristocratic appearance. Chief among these is his lethal precision, shown in his use of wires. With these microscopic ropes, he can tangle and cut his enemies to pieces in the blink of an eye. This technique even gives Alucard a run for his money, which is more than most people can say. Therein lies Walter’s greatest asset.
He’s easily Hellsing’s most powerful adversary, but he’s able to hide his true strength. His butler routine fools Integra and Alucard, who are both penetrating in their perceptiveness. An unknown enemy is a chilling concept, as it’s impossible to prepare for. It could be an utter weakling or a devastating threat. Unfortunately, in Walter’s case, it’s the latter.
