Ubisoft has announced that the servers for severalAssassin’s Creedgames will go offline in September. While the shutdown relates to older games that were released during the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era, this is no doubt bad news for many fans.

From September 1, players will no longer have access to the online functionality for the 2012 release ofAssassin’s Creed 3,AC Brotherhood, orAC Revelations. This means that players will be unable to participate in stealthy online missions against others, and the associated achievements will be unobtainable. For players looking tomax out their Xbox Gamerscoreon these three games, the clock is ticking to have them completed in the next few months.

Thankfully, one player has decided to step up and highlight whichAssassin’s Creedachievements will soon be unavailable. Redditor isaaccosand has created a spreadsheet that highlights which requirements will need completing by September and also explains how each task is completed. The dedicated player has also separated out the relevant DLC packs required, and to ensure every player on Xbox has the best shot at achieving these multiplayer activities, the user has also offered to help the community in getting these achievements.

While on the face of it, this might not seem a big problem as all three gamesAssassin’s Creedgames have since been re-releasedon newer hardware, the server shutdowns impact players who have yet to make the jump to newer consoles or those achievement hunters looking for the perfect Gamerscore.

Along with the publisher’s announcement that the servers are closing down, the team managed to cause further controversy asUbisoft announced they will lock DLCtied to these games on PC. In September, players will be unable to access the content, even if it has been previously purchased. This not only affects theAssassin’s Creedgames, but alsoFar Cry 3andPrince of Persia: The Forgotten Sandswhose servers are also going offline on the same date.

Video game servers shutting down is an unfortunate part of modern gaming, and while fans are not happy about the decision, it is certainly understandable from a business point of view. Ubisoft has decided to turn its attention to the numerous newAssassin’s Creedgames that are reportedly in development rather than continue support for games that are now two console generations old. Thelong rumoredAssassin’s Creed Riftand live service gameAC Infinitycould see a reveal in the coming months to appease gamers and address the future of the long-running series.
