Hideo Kojima made a surprise appearance at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference today with news regardingDeath Stranding. In his segment of the show, the creator of theMetal Gearfranchise, includingall the titles in theMetal Gear Solid Master Collection, announced that one of his most recent hits will be coming to Mac computers in the near future.The hit titleDeath Strandinginitially launched on PlayStation 4 in November 2019 and followed up with a PC release the next year. TheDirector’s Cutof the game came to the PlayStation 5 with massive improvementsin September 2021 and then rolled out for PC as well in March 2022.RELATED:Hideo Kojima Says Death Stranding 2 is Not a ‘Regular’ Sequel, Promises it Will Feel ‘New’Although a release date for the Mac version of the game wasn’t solidified, Kojima announced thatDeath Stranding: Director’s Cutwould be coming to the platform later this year. The news broke as Apple was promoting the gaming portion of its business during the Worldwide Developers Conference. The company plans to roll out “Gaming Mode” for its Mac computers. This will prioritize CPU and GPU usage so that titles run as smoothly as possible on the platform during gaming sessions. Apple also announced it is offering a new Game Porting Toolkit for developers to utilize which is said to promise a simpler porting process and a shorter development time. Hideo Kojima also confirmed that the team at Kojima Productions “are actively working to bring our future titles to Apple platforms.”
While those dedicated to Mac will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands onDeath Stranding, PlayStation 5 owners are eagerly anticipating news onDeath Stranding 2. Many fans were disappointed thatDeath Stranding 2was a no-show at Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase. However, given the close relationship between Hideo Kojima and Summer Game Fest’s Geoff Keighley, the game’s absence at the Showcase just adds further speculation that fans will see the sequel during Keighley’s Summer Game Fest live event on June 8.
The gaming medium isn’t the only outlet Kojima has intentions of bringing hisDeath StrandingIP to, though. The famed director revealed last year that aDeath Strandingmovie is in the workstoo. Kojima Productions will partner with Hammerstone Studios to help bring the project to fruition. Upon the movie’s announcement, Kojima stated he “is taking a direction that nobody has tried before with a movie adaptation of a game.”
Death Stranding: Director’s Cutis currently available for PC and PlayStation 5. A Mac version is slated to launch later this year.
