The Witcher 3’s Geralt gets to sit back and relax when his own horse Roach singlehandedly wins a fight for him. In role playing games likeThe Elder ScrollsorDragon Age, companions are an important aspect of their gameplay, either to give the player an extra leg up in combat, someone to store all their unwanted items on, orbackseating the player like the companions inGod of War. InThe Witcher 3, companions are not very common, mostly being there for missions rather than joining the Witcher Geralt on his entire adventure. In fact, there is only one true companion that does this for Geralt.
Roach is Geralt’s stalwart companion throughout the entirety ofThe Witcher 3, being there for him whenever she is called for. While also a vessel for many of themore hilarious glitches ofThe Witcher 3, Roach also provides the basic service that all horse companions should: the ability to ride them around as a form of transport. In addition to this, players can customize their personal Roach with items that are not just cosmetic, but even give buffs to the horse, whether it’s speed or inventory space. Yet, it seems Roach can serve another, more violent, purpose.

One player was able to witness as their Roach was able to take on a few thugs all by herself. Posting to r/Witcher3, user mybodyisreadyyo uploaded a clip of a fight that Geralt has with three ruffians near the beginning ofThe Witcher 3. While the fight can be used with a sword, this player prefers to go at it with their fists, beating up the thugs. As the player is fighting one such thug, Roach finds it prudent to run into the fight, taking the thug out by just bashing into them. When the thug is down and his two buddies join the fight, Roach provides support once again as she kicks at them with her hind legs, immediately defeating them both and winning the fight for Geralt.
In the comments, many users just posted their praise of Roach, commending her for her strength in battle, while others spoke of their own experience where Roach helped in a fight. Indeed, this isn’t the only time Geralt’s horse has intervened in a fight, asThe Witcher 3’s Roach has also taken to kicking Ronvid.
Though more news aboutthe next entries inThe Witcherfranchise is coming out, there is still no telling what exactly those games may entail, and whether they’ll actually add some form of non-equine companion that follows the player around or keep it solo just like with the White Wolf. For now, players can only hope that those future games will have a horse as good as Roach.
