Summary

Given the mammoth success ofHogwarts Legacy, a sequel seems inevitable. If a follow-up to one of 2023’s best-selling games does come to fruition, there are a number of directions Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. could take, perhaps even jumpingfar past the setting ofHogwarts Legacy. Assuming that the sequel does directly follow the story of the original, though, there are certain characters who should make a return.

Hogwarts Legacysports a rather ambitiously sized cast of characters. Aside from the several Hogwarts students the player can interact with, there are also many professors, each of whom stands out in their own way, with unique quirks, specialties, and backstories that are hinted at. With that said,Hogwarts Legacyarguably missed some opportunities when it came to fleshing out these mentor characters, and its sequel could remedy this by bringing some of them back and giving them the attention they deserve.

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Dinah Hecat

Professor Hecat Needs to be Fleshed Out in the Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Hogwarts Legacyhas a lot of spells, and many of its most useful combat spells are learned from Professor Hecat. This Defense Against the Dark Arts professor predates the era of Voldemort, meaning that she has not fallen victim to the curse he placed on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position at Hogwarts. Because of this, she is one of very few competent, effective, morally upright DADA professors that fans of the franchise have had the chance to observe.

But Hecat is more than just merely competent at her job. She commands the classroom with confidence, authority, and experience, suggesting a storied past as an adventurous wizard. This past could be explored in the sequel to the game. Additionally, whileHogwarts Legacymay have undermined the Dark Arts, that doesn’t mean that the stakes of the story won’t be higher in its sequel, and the player may need Professor Hecat’s guidance and combat expertise more than ever.

Professor Matilda Weasley in Hogwarts Legacy

Professor Weasley Could Play a Major Role in the Hogwarts Legacy Sequel

Matilda Weasley was one of the protagonist’s closest allies inHogwarts Legacy, so her return in the game’s sequel simply makes sense. Aside from being one of the most significant connections to theHarry Potterbooks and films, Weasley is an extremely powerful and reliable friend to have, aiding the player at several points throughout their Hogwarts journey, handling Headmaster Black, and looking the other way when the player is doing something not quite above board.

As a friend of the player character, she could help greatly with features like theHouse Cup inHogwarts Legacy’s sequel, but her implementation could go much further than that. Weasley is a former Curse-Breaker for the Ministry of Magic, which is a connection that could come into play in a higher-stakes story. This, coupled with her shrewdness and intelligence, could make her a central character in the next game.

Hogwarts Legacy Professor Mudiwa Onai

Professor Onai Could Expand the Hogwarts Legacy World

Divination Professor Onai is another character with a lot of potential. Players didn’t get to see much of her inHogwarts Legacy, as they spent more time with her daughter Natsai, but she was described as being a powerful Seer and Animagus. If she plays a role in the sequel, she could lend considerable aid to players with these unique abilities. Additionally, focusing on characters like Onai could helpHogwarts Legacysurpass its source material; as a Uagadou transplant, Professor Onai is one of just a few characters who represent the African wizarding world, which has been mostly in the background of the franchise. In the next game, she could shed light on this underdeveloped and sizable community of magical people.

The dust thatHogwarts Legacykicked up has barely settled, so it’s difficult to predict what might happen in a potential sequel.Hogwarts Legacy’s colorful cast of professors was one of the highlights of the game, so wherever Avalanche decides to go with the sequel, hopefully, it will involve at least some of these characters.

Hogwarts Legacyis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version will release on November 14.
