Sony finally gave fans what they wanted last week as its long awaited PlayStation 5 event showcased numerous games as well as the console itself. One of the highlights from that showcase came towards the end as Guerrilla Games confirmed thatHorizon: Forbidden Westis in active development for the PS5.The debut trailer was impressivebut lacked a number of details fans have been waiting for. This week, Sony is fixing that.
Following its impressive reveal last week, a new video was posted to the official PlayStation channel that provides a bit more insight intoHorizon: Forbidden West. Game director Mathijs de Jonge confirms that the game’s title refers to a new frontier in the game that players will need to explore. As hinted at in the debut trailer, this location is largely made up of locations west of Colorado including Utah all the way to the Pacific coast, as seen through familiar landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge.

Thanks to the additional power of the PlayStation 5, Guerrilla has been able to make the world more immersive and detailed. One such way is that there are virtually no loading screens in the game including things like loading checkpoints, respawning after death, and even fast traveling. What’s impressive about this is that the open world is much larger than it was in the first game both from a geographical standpoint and the fact that players will now be able toexplore and swim under the wateras well.
In terms of gameplay,Horizon: Forbidden Westfeatures dozens of new machines in addition to a few returning ones as well. Aloy will come across numerous different tribes in the game, some that are peaceful and others that won’t take too kindly to seeing a stranger in their territory. One such hostile tribe has figured out how to override machines and has utilized them as warbeasts in combat. Many of these warbeasts are also decked out with combat enhancements, making them even tougher to take down.
In addition to the new gameplay details, de Jonge provides a bit of insight into when the game will be available for PlayStation 5 owners. As revealed towards the end of the video, the team at Guerrilla Games is aiming to launchHorizon: Forbidden Westin 2021. Unfortunately, the date isn’t narrowed down any more than that, which means it could be early in the year or as far away as Fall 2021. Regardless, fans will need to remain a bit more patient before they get their hands on this anticipated sequel.
The robotic animals were a big part of what made the first game so special, so fans should be excited to learn that this sequel will feature even more like the pterodactyl like Sunwings and the massive mammoths known as the Tremor Tusk. Still, it hasn’t stopped fans from putting together their own wish lists for what sort ofanimals and dinosaursthey’d like to see recreated as a robot. Creatures like whales, lions, gorillas, and more.
