Summary
While Ubisoft didn’t provide an official update onTom Clancy’s The Division 3at its recent event, an industry insider gave a potentially exciting update for fans. It’s been a rollercoaster of a year for fans of Ubisoft’s third-person shooter franchise,The Division. At the start of 2024, there was a belief that a new game was on the horizon, anextraction shooter namedThe Division Heartland, but after numerous reports of behind the scenes issues, Ubisoft officially announced that it had ultimately decided to cancel the project entirely.
As disappointing as that news was for fans, the franchise appears to have a bright future. A free-to-play mobile spin-off calledThe Division Resurgenceis expected to launch later this year, whileThe Division 2continues to roll out new content, well beyond what fans originally expected over 5 years ago when the game first launched. However, Ubisoft has more plans for the franchise beyond both games, announcing last year that a third game in the franchise was being planned.
FollowingThe Division 3announcement, the next big question from players was when they could potentially see this game, especially since Massive Entertainment has had a lot on its plate withAvatar: Frontiersand the upcomingStar Wars: Outlaws. It shouldn’t be too surprising then that any sort of trailer or reveal for a third game wasn’t happening at Ubisoft Forward 2024, as the company instead focused on many of its already revealed titles.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 Gets a Small Development Update
Even though Ubisoft didn’t provide an official update, industry insider Tom Henderson was able to confirm a bit of news aboutThe Division 3. Following the conclusion ofUbisoft Forward 2024, Henderson jumped on social media to answer questions about some of the things that were expected to be part of the showcase but were ultimately left off, like the rumoredGhost Recontitle. When asked specifically aboutThe Division 3, Henderson confirmed that Massive will be moving it into full production onceStar Wars Outlawsreleases in August. That said, it’s still a long ways off, so fans will be waiting a while.
In the meantime, Massive Entertainment is giving players more reasons to dive back intoThe Division 2, which just began its sixth year of content. For thefirst season of Year 6 inThe Division 2, the original villain, Aaron Keener, has somehow returned following the conclusion of the Warlords of New York expansion, and he’s now looking to team up against the current Black Tusk threat. From a gameplay perspective, this newest season finally unifies Division 2 and Warlords of New York DLC owners into one experience, letting everyone reach level 40 and making the endgame available to all players.
